  • Development began in the early 2000s as a single

16-mile extension project from Fremont to Santa Clara.

  • In early 2009, VTA Board of Directors committed to

building project in phases, with focus on Phase I

  • During the design development, the 6-mile tunnel

section with 4 stations (Phase II) was put on hold

  • Phase I is currently under construction, testing and

commissioning

  • Renewed planning efforts for Phase II began in 2014

In April 2018, both the VTA and BART Board of Directors adopted the Recommended Project Description and Approved the Phase II Extension Project that consists of the BART Extension with Transit-Oriented Joint Development (TOJD):
