VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT Vision  To orient and augment the knowledge capital of teachers, administrators, senior functionaries, scholars and non-teaching staff of colleges and universities through well-designed, innovative, diverse training modules and continuing education programmes so as to pave way for their professional and career development and make them effective contributors towards knowledge society. VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT Mission  To provide adequate opportunities for the professional and career development of teachers in higher education system within the framework of knowledge society and to inculcate values, motivation and the skills in their art of teaching.  To provide opportunity for the teachers to update their knowledge in the subject, technology and acquire new methods of curricular transactions in each area of their chosen fields.  To enhance competencies, skills, abilities, knowledge, efficiency and motivation of teachers, administrators and non-teaching staff so that they can play an enabling role in the development of students, not only in terms of imparting knowledge and skills to them but also in their counseling, developing critical and innovative thinking, research, consultancy and extension work. OBJECTIVES OF UGC-ASC UOK TO DESIGN, ORGANIZE, CONDUCT, MONITOR AND EVALUATE  General Orientation and Refresher Courses for college and university teachers  Interaction Programmes for doctoral and post-doctoral scholars  Short-term courses for teachers, senior administrators, heads of departments, principals, deans and functionaries  Professional development prog. for non-teaching staff  Seminars, symposia, workshops for all above categories (ALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH UGC GUIDELINES) NAAC ASSESSMENT OF UGC-ASC, UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR 15-17 FEB., 2012

  4. FUNCTIONS OF UGC-ASC, UOK  Formulate, organize, monitor and evaluate orientation programmes and refresher courses for college and university teachers, senior administrators and non-teaching staff based on the broad guidelines;  Identify resource persons in various fields of specializations for conducting the orientation programmes and refresher courses, and familiarize such resource persons with the philosophy and guidelines for the programmes/ courses;  Set up a documentation centre-cum-library for reference and resource materials necessary for the programmes/course;  Produce specially designed materials required for effective implementation of the programmes/courses; NAAC ASSESSMENT OF UGC-ASC, UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR 15-17 FEB., 2012

FUNCTIONS OF UGC-ASC, UOK  Provide opportunities for in-service teachers to exchange experiences with their peers and benefit mutually  Provide a forum for serving teachers to keep abreast of the latest advances in each subjects of their interest;  Provide opportunities to further widen their knowledge and to pursue research studies;  Introduce the teachers to new methods and innovations in higher education delivery  Bring out publications relevant for enhancing the teaching and research capabilities of teachers;  Conduct capability enhancement programmes for non academic staff so as to strengthen the teaching learning environment. UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR  FOUNDED AS THE UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR IN 1948.  BIFURCATED INTO TWO FULL-FLEDGED UNIVERSITIES: UNIVERSITY OF JAMMU AND UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR, IN 1969.  TODAY UOK HAS13 FACULTIES, 38 TEACHING DEPARTMENTS AND 15 RESEARCH CENTERS.  IT OFFERS 65 COURSES IN DIVERSE DISCIPLINES OF SCIENCE, ARTS, HUMANITIES AND TECHNOLOGY.  ACCREDITED BY UGC-NAAC AS AN A-GRADE UNIVERSITY IN 2002.  RE-ACCREDITED IN AUGUST, 2011 AT A GRADE WITH A CGPA OF 3.11 ON A FOUR-POINT SCALE FOR FURTHER FIVE YEARS.  HAS ESTABLISHED TWO SATELLITE CAMPUSES IN SOUTH KASHMIR (ANANTNAG) & NORTH KASHMIR (DELINA BARAMULLA)  THREE MORE CAMPUSES AT KUPWARA, KARGIL AND LEH ARE ALSO COMING UP FOR THE BENEFIT OF PEOPLE LIVING IN THESE FAR FLUNG AREAS.
