Mission

 The Villarreal Nebraska Academy wants to have a positive impact

in the community offering outstanding soccer growth opportunities and personal development. To develop players to reach their maximum potential in a professional, fun and challenging

  • environment. To provide first class experiences to boys and girls in

the Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding areas who have the potential to compete at the collegiate or professional level. To instill sporting values such as teamwork, effort, discipline, respect and a healthy lifestyle, among others. 3 4

Vision

 To provide a platform where players are given the highest quality of

training and opportunities. Encourage players to participate on state, regional, and national teams. Villarreal Nebraska Academy develops an environment in which the soccer stars of the future will be nurtured and developed.

Soccer For All Ages – It’s A Process

 Villarreal Nebraska Academy is dedicated to providing consistent,

comprehensive and quality development for all of the individual players within our program. We celebrate the successes of our players that continually occur in training sessions, in games, in tournaments, and at home.

 We structure our academy in a similar manner to a school: we have

homework (i.e. skills to refine at home), classroom instruction (i.e. training sessions), and exams (i.e. games/tournaments).

 Over the past year we have had numerous successes on an

individual and a team level. 5 6

Values

 Organized sports or team sports teach values and life lessons that

young players will use during their childhood and beyond.

 Discipline: To learn the skills, to put in time and prepare so they

maximize their performance.

 Effort: You need to work hard to improve and reach your true potential.

Mentality can make up for natural talent.

 Commitment: Kids learn that it takes a certain sacrifice to participate

and contribute to the team’s performance.

 Teamwork: Working together as part of groups with a common goal will

bring success. Deal with success and failure—Failure is part and it is part

  • f the road to success, dealing with these setbacks is key to

accomplish maturity and self-fulfillment.

 Setting goals: Setting short and long term, individual and group goals

will showcase the players that will be more likely to succeed if they are setting goals

Reminder of the Membership Philosophy and Objectives

 The Villarreal Nebraska Academy philosophy is a total soccer

developmental curriculum, with an academy structure, and club culture that supports the complete athlete. Imagine what players can achieve with the freedom to develop their unique skill set, that is fostered in a healthy environment. With your acceptance of this offer, you will join the large and growing number of players, parents, coaches, and sponsors who understand that player development should be the main priority of youth sports. We are not focusing so much on team formation or team development, as much as player development: where a player is at, in the curriculum or development/trajectory. 7 8

Team Formation is Fluid: Goals and Limitations

 While team formation is a necessity in team sports, current

placement, personal development, and growth as a soccer player is always considered and may change throughout the season and as opportunities and developmental needs are presented. That means the players team may change during the season, team placement is fluid, (fees may need to adjust if teams adjust).

Developing Players Through a Variety of Experiences

The way our curriculum works: we focus on developing players and not necessarily teams, therefore your team is always subject to change. We believe teams are a consequence of players, so we develop good players, and this will give us a chance to make good teams.

Every team, competition and training session has a lesson to teach the player and the person. We encourage you to seek out the best in every opportunity presented and find a way to grow in character, grow as a teammate and grow in skill. There are times to lead, times to follow, times to struggle, times to be challenged and times to be a front-runner. Every single situation, you are in, is a time to be an example and grow, that is your responsibility, embrace it.

If you don’t like your placement, then we encourage you to work hard and change it, you are in control of your own placement, players place themselves. Please, don't focus on up or down when considering teams, rather putting together players that are like-minded, like-skilled and observing them continuously to ensure quality on the delivery of the curriculum.

Jorge’s View on Continual Growth

 "I was helped by playing up a season and coming back to my age

group to display the acquired skills and excel", says Jorge

  • Sambataro. "These different environments provided me with a

great deal of confidence and allowed for continual growth, which led to playing pro. I'm very excited about being present at our team's training sessions this coming year. I will have the chance, to have a much closer look at all our players, and I will continue to expect player movement. I’m going to ask you to trust the curriculum and understand that this is exactly what you paid for. I look forward to the upcoming season, to evaluate any player movement needs, at that time."

Goals for Spring and Beyond

 We have goals for player development and team progress.  The coaching staff has been evaluating the needs of each group

and is working to implement a plan best suited for each group and in some cases individuals.

 Not all groups have these needs, but some areas to note:

 Smaller Training Group Sizes, Smaller Coach to Player Ratio  Team Tactical Knowledge – Full Team Awareness  Variety of Age Group Experiences  Exposure to multiple coaches and new coaches  Training and/or Playing with a variety of players  Expansion/Variety of Competition Experiences

11 12

slide-7
SLIDE 7

2/6/2020 7

Additional Goals for Optimal Progress

 Like-minded, Like-skilled  Age Impacts from 2005 Trapped Age Group, High School and 8th

Grade

 U10 Players ready and needing advancement to a new program

level

 Players needing to take leadership opportunities  Players needing to play their age group or up an age  Players need more technical skill or tactical knowledge  Players need smaller training group sizes or maybe bigger  Players need more touches on the ball in a game setting

Many Agree, But Change is Hard

 We are very excited you have made the decision to join Villarreal

Nebraska Academy for the 2019/20 season.

 There are times that even the best laid plans need adjustments, so

we ask that you remain flexible during the season.

 Teams need all their players committed to the scheduling

complexities that come with outdoor sports and with our club philosophies.

 Why did you join Villarreal Nebraska Academy? We believe that

player development should be the main priority of youth sports. 13 14

What you should Ask Yourself and Ask your Player:

 Am I looking at the bigger picture?  Is your player learning and growing in practice  Is your player improving in their game knowledge  Is your player learning to see the game to understand  Are they recognizing their options  Have you asked them?

Nebraska – Spring League Format

 Beginning in spring 2020 all teams will be allocated a rating of;

COMP, DEV, REC. Teams will then be scheduled alongside other teams matching the same rating. In essence, we develop a divisional structure.

 Competitive Teams will play four (4) local teams, with a planned two

(2) weekends of out of state teams (1 hosting and 1 travel date).

 Development and Recreational Teams will play more local teams

(6-8 games).

Nebraska – Alliance All Star Teams

 Player pool training started in the fall with sessions hosted by each

member organization. In spring 2020, teams would be formed in the following ages on both boys and girls; U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14/15. Gold/Silver teams will be created.

 The playing calendar for these teams; fall training, winter

training/friendly games and spring training/tournament.

 Our mission; to create a coaches pool which work with these

players/teams throughout the year.

 Players/teams would represent Nebraska Alliance. This will be USSSA’s

program which is comparable to Nebraska ODP, US Club Soccer’s Id2.

Nebraska W.I.N. Camp

USSSA W.I.N. Camp will be held in June each year at Springfield Soccer Club.

Camp is open to all Alliance members 13U and below. Regional coaches on site will be Wayne Evans and Michael Nardiello. Players attending camp will be eligible for selection to Regional and National Camps in fall/winter through USSSA W.I.N.

Level II Camp (College ID Me) will also be offered during the summer for Alliance Members. This camp is open to players aged 13-17 years and their parents/guardians. Schools present; in NCAA DI, NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, NAIA, NJCAA.

W.I.N. Program 2020 Update

Training, education, advancement and identification for players, coaches, parents, referees and organizations.

Camps, tournaments and programs held in the local market by members. Hosting members may host Level I and Level II events.

Players are identified and then invited to join for regional training and play.

After regional program, players can be invited to the national camp (March in Florida) and represent USSSA internationally starting in 2020 (Italy – July).

Players from both regional and international programs may be recommended to U.S. Soccer through W.I.N. Program.

Educational programs are available for parents. Educational and U.S. Soccer coaching licenses are provided for coaches.

Starting in 2020, USSSA will educate and train referees in select markets.

All W.I.N. Directors and Staff have played and/or coached at the level in which they are experts. No coaches have club affiliations in the market they work, this helps stop any player recruiting and/or already established relationships.

Training curriculum available for organizations starting in 2020 in Level I and new BASE level (released in 2020).

Soccer Shoes

Fit is Important! The way your soccer cleats fit can affect the way you kick and run the field. Soccer cleats fit differently than your regular shoes your normal shoe size won't necessarily be the same for soccer cleats. Properly fitting soccer cleats will enhance your ballhandling skills; it's best to go into a store where you can try then on and size them for the correct fit. The fit will depend on your individual foot shape and size. General Fit In general, soccer cleats need to fit your foot snugly. The goal is to eliminate extra space, which can negatively impact the way you kick. You want every part of your foot to be able to touch the ball without excess air inside your cleat. As a rule of thumb, many soccer experts recommend getting soccer cleats that are one size smaller than your normal shoe size. However, even this won't hold true for everyone, so it's best to take some steps to make sure your cleats fit perfectly for you. Soccer Cleats Proper fitting, care, and injury prevention

Information provided by Nirschl Orthopaedic Center and Virginia Sports Medicine Institute

They say the shoes can make the outfit, but in sports it is the cleats that can make or break the athlete. No one piece of equipment will affect your game as much as your

  • cleats. Cleats protect your feet, give you traction on slippery grass, facilitate your running and give you extra leverage while shooting and passing.

Select and try on the right style of cleats starting with your normal shoe size. Depending on the brand you may need to go up a half size or more. When trying on cleats walk around the store to see if the soccer cleats are rubbing or feel excessively tight. Leather stretches after wear, but just a little bit. True leather or the new microfiber synthetics breathe better and decrease sweat and potential blisters. Some players like their toes at the tip for more feel of the ball, where others like room in the toes. It is important to choose fit over looks.

If you wear an orthotic (a shoe insert to provide added support), or plan on putting an extra insole in the cleat, you may want to purchase a brand that is known to have a wider cut like Adidas. When sizing a soccer shoe, remember to bring all the accessories that you will be wearing during the game, like shin guards, braces and most importantly, socks, to accurately gauge the shoe's fit. Make sure to take some time to break in the cleats before you wear them to play in a game.

It has been observed that the lack of arch support in soccer shoes can lead to an increased risk of ACL tears. Therefore, we recommend athletes, especially females, get custom orthotics or over-the-counter insoles called Super Feet Black in the low-profile design that will fit better in to soccer cleats. In addition, there has been some discussion that there is a higher rate of knee injuries with bladed square cleats vs. studded rounded cleats due to the increased traction and decreased rotational component of square cleats.

If you are buying cleats for a child, you may be tempted to buy them a little big. However, this is not always a good idea. Unlike everyday shoes, cleats are going to be worn in some of the most active moments, when a shoe not fitting properly may not only compromise performance, but significantly increase the chance of injury. Even a slight chafe can become a problem in ninety minutes of game play, and cleats will likely be worn out before they are outgrown. Younger players who are still growing may be lucky to get a spring and fall season out of their shoes. In reality you will probably need to replace shoes each season at a minimum due to normal wear and tear and the conditions of play.

The perfect pair of cleats can be difficult to find, so once you find them, you will want to learn to maintain your cleats. First, they should only be worn on the soccer field during games and practice sessions. Wearing them walking on sidewalks or home flooring can wear them down and cause them to be uneven, throwing you off balance and putting you at a high risk of injuries from falls.

After each wearing, brush the dirt off the bottom and sides and wipe them with a damp cloth, then rub shoe oil into them. Finally, loosen the laces and put newspaper in the cleats to help the shoes dry out. These simple steps will give your cleats a long life and keep them in good working condition.
