  2. What is vidumath? What? A European funded education project under the Erasmus plus programme For primary and lower secondary students age 9 to 12 Students produce videos on Mathematics Autonomously and collaboratively

  3. Why vidumath? Why? Students are the video generation Video allows a deep interaction with mathematical ideas Builds a deeper understanding of the chosen area Motivates and engages Helps retention and understanding

  4. Concrete Experience Active Reflective Experimentation Observation Abstract Conceptualisation

  5. video How? Enactive – iconic – symbolic “There are 12 cars parking. 4 cars drive away” Kaufmann & “There are 12 chips. I take away 4 chips.” Wessolowski 2006

  9. Experiences with technology Working with teachers Does the app still work? Mobile devices become outdated quickly. BYOD: Teacher has to handle two or three different systems, each in different generations. Using the cloud is easy, but may violate privacy. Not using the cloud is clumsy.

  10. Experiences with videomaking Working with teachers The teachers in the workshops mostly work on mathematics and (educational) design; filming and stop motion apps are easy to handle. Not every mathematical topic “works”. Can the pupils not create Khan-style videos with spelled-out formulas but rather develop and use visual metaphors? Start from typical misconceptions or with topics that tend to induce them.
