Welcome to our 17th annual Sports Presentatjon Evening.
Well, this is the strangest introductjon I have had to write for our Sports Presentatjon Evening booklet! We could easily have just let this evening pass with us not being able to have an evening in school but we would miss out on being able to celebrate your wonderful achievements. It really has been such a shame to see such a promising year of sport curtailed only just half way through the academic year. We have lockdown and quarantjne and a distjnct lack of competjtjve sport to watch, let alone partake in. All of the PE stafg have missed seeing you all terribly, both in lessons and in our extra-curricular actjvitjes. You guys are the reason we do the careers we do. We love spending tjme with you
- n the training grounds, on the fjeld of play and on the journeys to fjxtures. Now,
more than ever, I hope you can all appreciate that It is not just the competjtjon that is important to us, in many ways that is a merely conduit for the important aspect of sport, the social bonds it creates between teammates and opponents. It is this social aspect of sport that I know I am missing most of all and seeing each
- f you push yourselves to be the best you can be.
As always, the excellent extra-curricular opportunitjes available to you would not be possible without excellent, dedicated stafg to coordinate the lessons, practjces and fjxtures week in and week out. I contjnue to be very lucky to lead a department of outstanding practjtjoners who give up so much of their tjme and energy to provide these opportunitjes for you. It is ofuen assumed that stafg get paid extra to do this for you, but all extra-curricular support you get is done so in stafg’s own tjme, and without extra pay. I want to take this opportunity to thank them all on your behalf for all that they do. An extra special thanks to Mrs Rowland, who has taken on a considerable amount of extra burden throughout the year to ensure the department runs smoothly. The biggest reward for a teacher of PE or a sports coach is to see pupils partjcipate with enjoyment and then making developmental progress in their ability. The achievements we will be celebratjng have been the result of a huge amount of hard work and dedicatjon by students and stafg alike. I would personally like to
thank all stafg, pupils and parents for all their enthusiasm, support and commitment throughout the sportjng year. As always, it has been diffjcult to decide who would win the respectjve awards this evening, as there has been so much talent to choose from. It would be impossible to acknowledge every individual, but we recognise the amount of individual efgort and commitment that it takes to achieve a personal best. Before I fjnish, I would like to take a moment to refmect on what an amazing group the Year 10 boys are. We have had talented and successful year groups come through the school in years before, but these boys are difgerent. They will not mind me saying that they are not all World-beaters, in fact in most sports they have lost more games than they have won, but I believe that they will have a legacy beyond some of their more successful predecessors. You see, what these boys have that is ofuen missing in a group is an inclusivity. There was never a tjme that one of these boys turned round to me and said “why is he playing?”, indeed they welcomed anyone and everyone into their teams with open arms. In recent years we have struggled for numbers in Year 10 for football and rugby with exam pressures and apathy causing drop ofg in partjcipatjon. To buck the trend, the Yr 10 boys gained enough players to be able to fjeld two and a half rugby teams and just as many football teams. This only happens when boys are welcoming to newcomers and understanding of their development. It has been truly wonderful to see and I am sure that this year group has created an environment that will see a much greater number contjnue to play sport as they progress through school and beyond than some of the more “talented” but exclusive year groups that have preceded them. I hope other year groups can emulate this attjtude in the coming years. I know many of you will be devastated to not be able to see me dance to the Cha Cha Slide or Macarena this year but you’ll just have to wait untjl next year I’m
- afraid. Let’s all hope we have had a full year of sport before then!
See you all at school soon I hope. Mr Tree.

Year 7 Girls Sports Report
It has been a fantastic year for Year 7 girls competing in many sports and is nice to see many girls trying new sports and participating in school matches and events. It is great seeing loads of girls getting involved and most of the sports teams have won many of their games and have only lost a couple. Its has been a great first year, despite it being cut short and everyone who is part of a sport team has brought different strengths and weaknesses but overall, we all come together to make the dream team. I am looking forward to next season and hopefully more people will join more sports which will be even better. Izzy Rider Year 7 What an amazing year for our first introduction to secondary school sport. We all came from different primary schools, with different abilities. But all came together to form teams to represent Park House. This has been a great first season for the netball teams, we’ve played in lots of matches, won many and lost as many. But through all the winnings and loses, we all developed as a team, and I’m really looking forward to next year. Hockey was great fun, and for many girls, this was the first time they’d played. Unfortunately, due to lockdown, our training, matches, and experiences have all been put on hold until we get back. Hopefully, when we get back, we can go straight to training and start a new season. Amilia Dornan Year 7
Year 7 Boys Sports Report
I was really looking forward to startjng sport at Park House having completed so many actjvitjes there previously. Im my fjrst year I have represented the school in Cross Country, in the league, area and district competjtjons improving on my positjon each tjme, whilst some races were run as a team at the district competjtjon I was the only year 7 boy to run, we managed to get some athletjcs in by competjng in the indoor competjtjon in December as a team. I have also really enjoyed the team aspect playing football for the year 7 team with my friends, winning the fjrst round of the county cup competjtjon playing some great football. It’s a but upsettjng that we can’t fjnish the year with some
- utdoor athletjcs and sports day but I’m really excited to hopefully get these opportunitjes next year
and to improve on my fjrst year at Park House. Refmectjon of my year, Ollie Hall
Year 8 Girls Sports Report
Since Year 7, we have made great progress in all our sporting activities, we have grown as a team and
- independently. The results in hockey highlighted fantastic individual performances from Tilly and a great team
result when we beat St Gabriels 5-0. In Cross Country, Anna has stayed in the top 5 for each race she has competed in, she shows great determination and perseverance. The Rugby Team had amazing opportunities to train with David Campese and an Vicky Fleetwood. Through 8 matches and a district tournament the Netball team scored a total of 76 Goals. Grace Sawtell This year we have come on so far, at the start of the year we started training immediately and as a result made amazing progress in all sports we played. We have done really well in all sport this year and everyone who has partjcipated has done their best and made the school proud. We have really excelled in sports such as Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Netball and Football. Through out the year there have been so many sportjng opportunitjes for everyone to get involved in, like training sessions with professional athletes and team players. We have also been privileged to receive some training from
- ther people such as the cricket coach that came in for girls who like to get involved in cricket. This
year we have learnt so much, but we owe it all to our teachers. Without them we wouldn’t have any
- f these incredible opportunitjes or amount of support from them all. So thank you so much for
everything you do for us all. Millie Underwood
Year 8 Boys Sports Report
This year we have really progressed not only as a team but as a year. Rugby was at the beginning of the sportjng year. It is a fantastjc sport to be involved in. We had some great experienced players like Seb, Kam and Sam W but we also had so many players who improved thanks to our coaches. We picked up the 'hand ofgs' rule pretuy quickly but weren't so aggressive as other teams. My favourite moment was winning the league and we all ran and belly slided in the mud to celebrate. Now moving onto cross country we had a really good year. I was lucky enough to have a few 1 to 1 training sessions with Mr Holland. Surprisingly not many people turned up for the training but they
- should. We did one side of a pitch fast and another side jogging. Even though cross country isn't a
team sport it felt like it on the coach journey, we would all be singing. Year 8 was a tough year as we had to race against the Year 9's. My highest positjon was 7th. More people should get involved to improve their fjtness and pace next year. I am proud to have ran for Park House and being a part of cross country was a really good experience. The last sport was football which was cut a bit short because of the virus. We aren't the most successful football team but we defjnitely played betuer than last year. We did win a runners up medal, next tjme we will come fjrst. Our best win was 4-2 on penaltjes in a tournament. To sum up the year it was very successful. We are very likely to be a part of a school who ofgers a variety of sports. We have some talented people in our year and our teachers work hard to help and train us.
Aston Howse It has been an unusual couple of terms this year due to current circumstances; despite this our sport has thrived. I was lucky enough to play in both the football and rugby team this year and it was an amazing experience to be involved in them. Our football season was a very good one with numerous wins. The tournament at Barts was amazing; We didn’t lose a game and came second overall, only one point separating the top two. Our matchup against Barts was bitter sweet; the A team lost but the B team won with a last-minute goal. We played some very good football when we beat Trinity 8-2 where everything just seemed to click for us. Overall, we played very well and next year we will come back stronger. We also had another outstanding rugby season with only one or two losses to our name. We won every district game and then we had the county cup 7s tournament at Reading Bluecoat where we
- nly lost 1 game. We played very well that day considering that the conditions were awful. This
rugby season was a bit shorter than usual, but it was just as fun. Some of us were even lucky enough to have a training session with the legend Australian winger David Campese. We played really well this season and I am really excited to get back out there next season. I really enjoyed this year’s sport and look forward to more fixtures and events (wearing a mask?!). Sam White
Year 9 Girls Sports Report
This year the Year 9 girls have really grown as a team and persevered through some of the rainy matches and pulling out many wins and a few losses. Hockey season was sadly short for us, with a few cancelled matches and teams not showing. This only gave us three matches which we won two and only losing by one goal. At the end of the day we all ended up having a laugh with each other and with Miss Tregear and Miss Snooke. In netball we tried new skills over the season one being trees which we all had mixed opinions on at the start, but we all ended up trusting Mrs Clarke. The whole team followed through with this even though it was difficult at times. We pulled several wins but from the losses all we can do is learn and beat those teams in the future. The cricket season was highly successful for the girls with them winning all their indoor cricket matches, this would have brought them to the county final but due to lockdown this sadly did not take
- place. They also took part in a teaching course for primary school children. The girl’s results were
extremely good, and they hope to be just as good next season. Badminton season was quite successful for the girls with eight girls attending the Theale Green tournament, and with four of them bringing a 2nd place medal back with them. This season has been very enjoyable and put together thanks to Mr Tree, Mrs Clark and Ms Rowland. Overall, this year has been very successful for the Year 9 girls sports.
Iyla Chind and Maddie Fegan-James
Year 9 Boys Sports Report
Although results have not gone much in our favour this year, the dedicatjon ando teamwork has remained high. Despite the year being cut short, there have stjll been many opportunitjes for everyone to take part whether it be Football, Rugby or even just house sports. With the hard work put in by everyone this year, I hope we can take all the new skills and experiences we have and get some well- deserved victories when we return to school. However overall, it has been a good year for Year 9 boys sports Ethan Smith
Year 10 Girls Sports Report
The year 10 girls had a great start to the year, playing their best in hockey, netball, rugby and
- badminton. Sadly due to lockdown we weren’t able to play in our most popular sports, rounders and
- athletics. We started the year off with hockey and the chance to play with girls up to 3 years older. It
was very challenging but a great experience and a lot of fun. Izzy Dodridge and myself were really put to the test playing with and against some really talented players. For rugby, sadly we had limited numbers, however the girls who played were really committed and improved a lot. Kyla Barclay proved her talent and got into county, we are very proud and are excited to see how far she goes. In netball,
- ur girls played with the year 11’s and had a great season. They got the chance to play a friendly
tournament with other schools which was very beneficial and a lot fun. Overall, it was a great year of sport and hopefully it will be even better next year. Molly Lefever
Year 10 Boys Sports Report
Like every year so far, us year 10 boys have done our utmost best to help the school in the sporting
- environment. We may not always have the strongest team in ability and we may not always get the
best results, but there’s no dampening our spirits and we’ll always make sure we leave everything on the pitch, o matter what sport we’re taking part in. We may have failed to win the majority of our fixtures this year but we’ve had a couple results that will live long in the memory of all who took part. In rugby, we managed to beat Kennet in a closely fought contest with a try in the final phase of play. And in our final football match of the year, we blew John O’Gaunt away with a more than convincing 5-1 victory. These wins meant a lot to me as an individual as they were the first competitive fixtures I had helped Park House to win in my 4 years here but it just goes to show that we will all give our all no matter what happens and if we fall down 7 times, we’ll get up 8 and we’ll do this by sticking together as a team. I hope that we can continue to help the school in the future, whether it be in sports fixtures or continuing to help with sport leadership to inspire future generations. Tom Rowe
Badminton
KS3 Girls Badminton Mrs Clarke Players: Matilda Pike, Holly Rider, Louise Kervella, Dani Burns, Grace Cussens, Izzie Rider, Iyla Chind, Zoe Whittington, Maddy Fegan-James Most Committed: Louise Kervella Most Organised: Holly Rider Funniest Moment: Trying to get out of the car park in the mini-bus at Theale Green when it was pitch black and the gates would not open! Proudest Moment: Silver Medal in the West Berkshire tournament Coach’s Comment: Well I think all that can be said is ….. participation. If there is one thing that makes me happy it is seeing growing numbers of our students attending extra-curricular clubs. For me Badminton has just grown this year, from just a few regulars to over 25 attending regularly is just
- brilliant. As a result of their passion for yet another sport, two of our year nine girls have really caught
the bug and are now members of Newbury Badminton club. I can’t emphasise enough the benefits of having that link with external clubs. Both Matilda and Holly are both now reaping the benefits of more specialised coaching and can regularly beat myself and Mr Tree.
Cricket
U13 Girls Cricket Coach: Mr Elliott Captain: Carly Chisolm Most Committed: Issy Rider Most Organised: Carly Chisolm Most unorganised: Kerensa Head Funniest Moment: Trying to get the mini bus to start after our game at Edgbarrow School… Proudest Moment: Winning 2 games in the Lady Taverner’s competition. Coach’s Comment: The U13 girls team have been brilliant this year. It is the first year that we have been able to have an U13 and U15 team which shows the talent that we have available to us at Park
- House. The girls always show commitment, resilience, hard work and an excellent attitude towards
training and the opposition we play against. We were always competitive in the Lady Taverner’s Indoor competition winning 2 games and suffering 1 loss in the first stage of the competition. We had spent time trying to improve different areas of our game including our bowling and fielding. Stand out players this season have been Issy Rider, Carly Chisolm and Anna Paterson. Well done to all the students involved!
U15 Girls Cricket Coach: Mr Elliott
Captain: Holly Rider Most Committed: Every player! Most Organised: Holly Rider Most unorganised: Still Caitlin Gordon! Funniest Moment: Caitlin Gordon trying to remember when our fixtures were each week. Proudest Moment: The way in which the girls helped develop the U13 girls in every training session. Coach’s Comment: The U15 girls team have been outstanding again this season! The girls always show commitment, resilience, hard work and an excellent attitude towards training and the opposition we play against. We were again exceptional in the Lady Taverner’s Indoor competition winning all of our games in the first stage of the competition. We had spent time trying to improve different areas of
- ur game this year including our running in between the wickets and fielding. Stand out players this
season have been Holly Rider, Lottie Eaton, Megan Varney, Matilda Pike and Jess Upton. Well done to all the students involved!
Football
Year 7 Football Mr Holland Captain: Conor McManus and Charlie Seymour Most Committed: I can’t pick one- all of them have been brilliant. Most Organised: Oliver Hall and Conor McManus- both boys bring all their equipment no matter the weather and are ready for all types of surface (different studs and trainers). It could be down to their parents but I will give them the credit! Funniest Moment: We haven’t really had a funniest moment this season because it was cut short. However, it does amuse me with the amount of questions I get from them. With the step up from primary school, they struggle to understand the instructions sometimes so the repeated questions do make me laugh. Proudest Moment: Our first game away at Cox Green in the cup. It was a cold evening and the referee wasn’t brilliant (a bit one-sided) but the boys continued to play very well and came out with a 2-0
- victory. Dylan’s double penalty save was incredible and helped us to win. The boys’ togetherness and
spirit was fantastic to see. Coach’s Comment: The Year 7’s have been extremely committed to their football. We have had 25 plus at training every week and it shows a great determination and spirit to get involved. We have had a lot of players represent the school for the first time which is a great achievement with it being their first year at secondary school. The boys had a great first season even though it was unfortunately cut short due to you know what. I am looking forward to seeing this group develop and grow over the years at school and have no doubt that they will be successful. Well done to all the boys involved and it has been a real pleasure to coach them this year.
Year 8 Football Mr Keatley & Mr Columbro Captain: Tom Clipston Most Committed: Hunter Dornan Most Organised: Connor Butt Proudest Moment: A few contenders but we would have to go for the 8-1 win against Trinity in some very tough conditions. The skill, teamwork and maturity the boys showed in this game was fantastic, not letting the lead get to their heads and continuing to play high paced, intelligent football. Coach’s Comment: Firstly, we would like to say a massive congratulations to the team for their successes this year. Although we may have fallen just short on a few occasions in both the league and county cup, the improvements they have made both on and off the pitch have been excellent. In comparison to last season where the team failed to win a single game, the boys have come out this year with a brand-new desire and commitment, developing their technical ability and teamwork along the way. Their successes included a first-round win in the county cup against a quick and very skilful Blessed Hugh school, and an 8-1 thumping of Trinity in the league. This was added to a hotly contested win against Downs and a tough fought draw against Kennet. It has been an absolute pleasure to coach these boys this year and has been thoroughly enjoyable to see such thrilling games along the way. The boys’ behaviour has been impeccable, and they show a true passion and professionalism towards the
- game. We both look forward to seeing what more is to come from this group of players.
U13 Football The U13 team is a mixture of year 7 & 8, some are playing outside of school and its great to see everyone so welcoming and supportive. It had been a mixture of the area tournaments hosted at school and then moving into the cup fixtures which were disrupted due to the weather. We are increasing our football in the curriculum as the girls bring such a buzz to training and games with the desire to improve and continue to compete with schools in the area and county. Well done to Tara who played with the year 9s and those that played across the mixed age group games. Year 9 Football Mr Gook Captain: Kieran Tucker Most Committed: Jack Daly Most Organised: I have never found this category more difficult…that’s all I’m saying! Funniest Moment: Just watching Dwayne get more and more irate at training when nobody else can live up to his high standards, especially the poor outfield players forced to go in goal for the games at the end of the session. Just chill! (Loved the commitment though) Proudest Moment: Aidan McManus saying in a very early training session that he couldn’t play further forward when I told him it was my plan – but then he ends up as top scorer. Coach’s Comment: The lack of games this year has meant that we haven’t experienced the moments we should have done. I am really gutted about that. BUT, what I have seen in the short time we’ve worked together boys is that you are all on board to make sure that we can compete with the right
attitude, not just in games but with each other. Team spirit is what creates success. I told you that this was a three-year project to right the wrongs of the previous regime (😊 haha) and from what I’ve seen, we WILL get to where we want to be. Buzzing for next season already! U15 Football Again the U15’s are a mixed age group made up predominantly of year 9s, whilst we know that the year 9s are sport mad its fantastic that we see different faces out at games and training. Lots of you are training outside of school or have been previously and you knowledge shines through in your ability to take autonomy and lead those around you and that comes right through from training (when we get out) and games. You played some fantastic football during your tournament with high levels
- f skill, fitness and communication.
Y10 Football Mr Howe Captain: Rory Dunbar Most Committed: Tom Rowe Most Organised: Tiago Castro Funniest Moment: When we played our first game of the season against Kennet, we had a big squad but we had one player off sick so Mason Brown had brought his kit hoping to get an opportunity. He had shown a great desire to play and now was his opportunity. He was raring to go and came on in the second half. He had a wonderful first touch and then as he tried to crank up the gears to strive forward with the ball he went absolutely flying over the ball with his second touch halting the game for a moment as everyone had a good laugh. Proudest Moment: Gaining our first win after progressively improving throughout each game with a wonderful team performance against the Clere. Coach’s Comment: Being new to the school I was wonderfully surprised by the amount of Y10’s boys that showed their love for football with sustained commitment from 25+ boys attending each training session, in all weathers. We had a bit of a rocky start against Kennet and St Bart’s conceding early goals, but grew into the games where the second half we were stronger but couldn’t quite pull it back. We then played Forest school in the County Cup where we fought brilliantly and once again came storming back in the second half but couldn’t quite put the ball in the net and lost 3-1. Our final game before the season was stopped was against the Clere and this is where the boys clicked together and produced a brilliant team performance, winning convincingly. It was fantastic to see the boy’s commitment and determination in training and games showing their love for football made it a very enjoyable season.
Hockey
Year 7 Hockey Mrs Rowland Captain: Izzy Rider Vice Captain: Livvy Beard Best Moment: Seeing the numbers and skill level grow week on week. Coach’s Comment: It was a pleasure to see how well you threw yourself into the hockey season, with commitment and humour, despite the season being cut short you had a fantastic first game and the Trinity tournament beating St Gabs and from there your grew in confidence and organisation. Taking leadership in the weeks when we had multiple games going on and being able to support one another, certainly an attribute I only want to see increase going forward. Congratulation on your first, if not short season of hockey, next year the fun starts when we get a keeper in goal!! Year 8 Hockey Mr Wright & Miss Snook Captain: Anna Patterson Vice Captain; Grace Sawtell Coaches player of the Season: Anna, running the game from start to finish. Most Organised: Grace Sawtell and Maddie Owen Most forgetful: Lucy, as forgot her kit most training sessions. Most helpful: Anna Patterson The year 8 girls had a very successful season playing some outstanding hockey. They beat both St Gabriel's A and B team and came close to beating Kennet and The Downs. In training they gave the 8 and 9 year boys a run for their money. Lucie in the process quite literally took out one of the boys, sending him flying! One last major contributor came from Tess who made a heroic effort playing in goal for the first time. Year 9 Hockey Miss Tregear & Miss Snook Captain: Rotated around each game Most Committed: Miss Snook and I – going out, especially in the rain, to help the other years when no 9’s turned up to training Most Organised: Flo Buckland Funniest Moment: Iyla just generally trying to get into her goalie kit each training and match. Proudest Moment: After only one or two weeks of practice seeing the girls play their first match and thinking wow these girls can play.
Coach’s Comment: Despite our slightly wavering attitude and numbers at training, the team came together cohesively on match days, no doubt due to each players own ability and being able to work well as a team. Our season was cut short but out of the three games we did play, we had two great successful wins against Kennet (4-1) and St Gabriel’s (3-0) and only narrowly lost 0-1 against The
- Downs. The three player of the matches were Zoe Whittington, Matilda Pike and Holly Rider. I really
hope to see the girls next year to continue their success and skills. Senior Hockey Mrs Rowland & Mrs Whyatu Ladies because of numbers and league structure you played at the Senior hockey team and you really did step up to the game, playing with girls up to 3 years your senior, you never gave up. Your skill level showed through and we were able to play some fantastjc hockey. Molly Lefever showed some fantastjc strong atuacking hockey being able to drive the ball forward to feed our atuacked puttjng us in a number of goal scoring opportunitjes. Izzy as ever providing the ‘dodridge’ touch to any hockey game bringing her tenacity and commitment to the game, I look forward to seeing you contjnue to play next year.
Leadership Miss Tregear
I have been very impressed with the number of students across all years who have been involved in the leadership programme. Not only are these students giving up their free time to help with Primary Events but I am also impressed with how they conduct themselves. They have shown great enthusiasm, patience and confidence, and I have no doubt that each student is or will become a great leader. A special mention must go out to the Get Set Beacon group, who have been excellent role models. These students have been involved in many leadership events over the years but this year especially they were Creative Partners for the Get Active Berkshire Awards night, meaning they helped design and support the running of the night. Myself, and I can include Mr Rowell and Mr Peaple in this, were extremely proud of how the students carried themselves and the feedback we received speaks for
- itself. “The GBA team members especially praised the children’s commitment, can-do attitude,
confident acting, manners and politeness. It was an important job and it was brilliantly done by the Creative Partner team.” A huge congratulations to Izzy Dodridge, Amber Alsbury, Edward Smith, Thomas Rowe, Alex Philp, Rohan Paul, Rory Dunbar, Bryn Milward, Harley Pottinger and Ed Langdon who unfortunately couldn’t attend the night.
Netball
Year 7 Netball Miss Tregear Captain: Rotated round each game Most Committed: Kerensa Head & Brianna Barclay Most Organised: Klara Barnett Funniest Moment: Miss Snook (our second coach and cheerleader) sneaking them skittles on the side line when they were just about to play. Proudest Moment: Watching them develop, progress and build confidence from the start of the year to the end of the term. Also seeing their commitment and energy for training and matches flourish. Coach’s Comment: We had a shaky start to the netball season in relation to numbers (I blame Grease) but I am so pleased that by the end of the term we had great numbers coming to training. It was wonderful to see the level of commitment and effort that grew over the term and to see students mature rapidly by balancing their other commitments as well. Although we may not have had the
- utcome we wanted from all our games, winning against Wren, Trinity and Willink, the girl’s positive
attitude continued throughout all of their games. A special mention to Amilia Dornan who was voted as player of the match five times, Maria Goncalves-Hosseiny three times and Kerensa Head twice. I really look forward to taking these girls next year and seeing their progression on and off the courts. Year 8 Netball Miss Breach & Mrs Clarke Captains: Harriet Burley and Tilly Dodridge Most Committed: Saffron Robinson Most Organised: Eva Maughan Funniest Moment: Towards the end of the season, myself (Miss Breach) and Mrs Clarke took part in a training session and joined the girls in a match. I was playing against Grace Sawtell, in which we all truly saw her competitive side! She would not let me leave her side and was thoroughly determined to not allow me to score a goal! Much to her dismay, myself and Mrs Clarke managed to score a goal, causing Grace to be stroppy and silent for the remainder of the training session. Proudest Moment: Seeing the girls improve in supporting and encouraging each other within their matches. Coach’s Comment: The Year 8’s have been thoroughly motivated this season. The amount of girls showing up to train was incredible, despite other commitments they may have. Although the season didn’t end up as planned and they didn’t get as many wins as they’d have hoped, the girls still continued to turn up to training and matches with positivity and high spirits (despite a slight bit of negativity when things didn’t go their way)! I have thoroughly enjoyed training the girls and watching them improve over the 4 months in which I had the pleasure of spending with them and I’m devastated that I will not have the opportunity to work with them next year, however I know that they have the power to improve so much and have all faith in them as a team.
Year 9 Netball Mrs Clarke Captain: Grace Cussens / Maddy Feagen-James Most Committed: Grace Cussen Squad: Jasmine Phippen, Dani Burns, Iyla Chind, Amelia Overend, Holly Rider, Maddy Feagen-James, Jess Tomlinson, Neve Chivers, Matilda Pike, Grace Cussens, Zoe Whittington and Beth King. Most Organised: Matilda Pike Funniest Moment: Ameilia Overend & Jess Tomlinson ..... they just make me laugh so much! Proudest Moment: Beating St.Barts, in the fantastic opening indoor mach the sports hall – fast furious ferocious fantastic! Coach’s Comment: I absolutely love coaching this group of girl. They show so much commitment and determination, always improving although sometimes a little reluctant to try new and more challenging advanced tactics “TREES” they are a fantastic group of girls. Also really pleased to see continuing numbers coming out to training every week which clearly makes selection for matches a headache for me. Can’t go without mentioning two players. Grace Cussens and Maddy Feagen-James both selected to play for Eagles Netball club and are now playing Regional Netball. Grace was selected at the start of the season and playing regularly, Maddy making the selection after Christmas. Playing at this higher level has really benefited them as individuals and as a year 9 team. Fantastic girls, well done.

Year 7 Rugby Mr Rowell & Mr Bouzida Captain: Sydney Adams Vice-Captain: Leon Taylor/Luca Nutley-Potts/Dara Chind Most Forgetful: Brandon Ward (hope you get some more gum-shields for next season!) My Stand-Out Moments: Henry Blackstone’s last minute winning try at the RBC tournament, Luca’s magical rucking powers, Leon powering through St. Barts, and Max’s perfect tackle at Trinity. Coaches comment: During their first term of contact rugby, our Year 7 squad had a very challenging and exciting season. The interest and enthusiasm from the start was incredible, with 20+ budding young rugby players turning up to the first few training sessions. Whilst we suffered a few difficult defeats early on, including a hard-fought, last gasp one try defeat at home to Kennet. However, every season can be made great with a win against St. Barts, and our boys delivered, putting five tries past them in October. Our season ended with an outstanding tournament at Reading Blue Coats, where both of the Park House Year 7 sides managed to go undefeated in their afternoon tournaments. Throughout the season, there have been some stand-out performances from the likes of Leon Taylor, George Bennett, Luca Nutley-Potts, Dara Chind, Brandon Ward, Wilfred Manton, Jacob Cussans and
- ur captain Sydney Adams. In truth, I could name the entire squad for individual performances, for
they constantly and pleasantly surprised me with their bravery in tackles, their incredible desire to run and the fantastic improvements they made to working as a team on their passing and line work. I personally, and the whole year 7 squad, want to thank Mr Rowell for his leadership, support and for helping us all to enjoy what will hopefully be the first of many seasons of great rugby for this year group at Park House School. Year 8 Rugby Mr Holland Captain: Seb Chapman Most Committed: I can’t pick one- all of them have been fantastic and are a great bunch of boys. Most Organised: Seb Chapman and Kam Paul- I have picked a forward and a back who organised the team fantastically on the pitch. Seb is brilliant off the pitch at making sure the team is organised and knowing where they all need to be. Wow Moment: Instead of a funniest moment, I have decided to pick a particular WOW moment in the
- season. This was fantastic and shows that size does not matter when tackling. It was one of our first
games of the season in a friendly against St Barts. Max Perry (probably smallest person on the pitch) took down the biggest player from St Barts. It was an incredible tackle and showed to all the boys that with the right technique, it doesn’t matter how big you are. This was a great moment for the team. Well done Max! Proudest Moment: This has to be the 7s tournament at Reading Bluecoat. The weather was awful and we were soaked all day but the boys were absolutely outstanding. The way they played in the tournament with winning their group convincingly and then going on to play the other teams who topped their group as well and only losing one game was brilliant to watch. It was my proudest moment as a teacher with a sports team as they played with excellent spirit, togetherness and had some injuries on the way as well but managed to overcome it all. Coach’s Comment:I am extremely excited to see how this team develops next year and throughout their time at Park House. They are only going to get better and they are a seriously talented bunch of rugby players. They continue to excel in the district league winning it for a second year running as well as the numerous county teams they have beaten as well in tournaments. I can’t wait until the county cup which starts in Year 9 and I really believe that they could go a long way. We have the making of a very successful team who will make Park House School proud. Keep up the good work boys- stay committed and don’t get complacent! U13 Rugby Mrs Rowland Captain: Tara Fitzgerald Vice Captain: Ila Williams Most commitued: Myah Herbert & Daisy Bull Proudest moment: Your rugby ethos, seeing you play at Reading RFC just before the end of the season, you played some fantastjc rugby showing that you meant business. Crunching tackle award: Ila both in atuack and defence you obliterate players and with the nicest smile
- n your face.
Coaches comment: Ladies just writjng this takes me back to the sunny day at Reading, you put blood, sweat and tears into that tournament playing every single minute of rugby possible. From the handling to seeing your confjdence grow over the season, its been a pleasure to see so many of you make the transitjon to club rugby and here to taking a few more with you, ladies you’re a fantastjc bunch of girls and I can’t wait to see what 2021 brings.
Year 9 Rugby Mr Keatley Captain: Max Agar Most Committed: Henry Gray Most Organised: Jack Bone Proudest Moment: After a tough few years of competition where the team has been up against it playing some very big and technically strong opposition, it could be forgiven that some students would lose interest. However, it is amazing to see the multitude of students continue to attend training sessions and go to great lengths in order to play in the fixtures. Their positivity and commitment has been second to none and I am very proud to take such a brilliant bunch of students. Coach’s Comment: Another tough year for the year 9 rugby team with results not going our way and where we continue to play against some very strong opposition who have a distinct height and weight advantage on the majority of the team. That being said, we have played some fantastic rugby, improving on the basic skills as well as developing new ones. Our scrummaging has continued to be a strength of ours where despite the size differences, the boys have been very physical. Tackling has improved tenfold and it has been refreshing to see new leaders emerge within the group. We have welcomed some fantastic new players who have fitted in immediately with not only the group, but the game as well. Overall, despite the negative results, the positivity within the team continues and the commitment has been exceptional. I really hope that this group can stick together into the next season and stay focused on the positives in which there have been many. They are group that epitomize the idea that results can fall second behind the enjoyment of playing the game Yr 10 Rugby Mr Tree Captain: Will Welch (when fit, shared otherwise) Most Committed: This could go to so many of the boys who attended week in, week out. Funniest Moment: Not necessarily funny, but our “Baa Baas” team played an Australian touring team, who turned out to be huge. The boys kept going on about how big their player with the pink scrum hat was before the game. The 10 then kicked the first kick off of the game straight down his throat and he ran to our tryline untouched to score the first try of the game within about 15 seconds! Not
- ur proudest moment.
Proudest Moment: I could easily choose the second game against Kennet when we reversed what happened in our previous game when we lost to the last play of the game, with Oscar scoring to round
- ff a solid performance and our first win of the season. However, for me, I have been proud of these
boys every week. They committed to training in numbers early on and kept convincing boys to begin rugby or return to rugby in Yr 10. I cannot remember any Yr 10 team in recent memory gaining numbers on their Yr 9 squad but these boys did, and then some. They are so welcoming and good with each other an provide a supportive environment to learn. That is my proudest thing about this team, they are growing the rugby community at Park House School. Coach’s Comment: As I said, these guys are a credit to rugby. They have great enthusiasm for the game and are great ambassadors in all that they do. They will not mind me saying that results have been a
struggle at times, but they have never let that bother them. They work hard for each other and rarely blame each other if things are not going well. This is all the more impressive as we started this season with us having lost two of our biggest and strongest boys who had moved away, and our regular captain was injured for the majority of the season. It certainly helped that we were joined by a player
- f Oscar Busby’s calibre, who had a big impact on every game we played and provided the moment of
the season by hitting the Australian pink scrum-capped giant with a tackle so fierce it drove him back
- ver 10m. A monster hit!
Well done boys, please stay together as a group and play more rugby as we will have a great sixth form side if you all stick together. U15 Rugby Mrs Rowland Captain: Various Berkshire RFU Playing Honours: Kyla Barclay, Amelia Pearce Coaches comment: Whilst we didn’t have the end of season we’d have hoped for there was certainly a lot more playing opportunity available. It was great too referee you in the nail bitjng game against the ‘Down/Kennet’ combinatjon in December where you played fast and free running rugby. Some fjerce tackles as wells as fancy footwork put most of you during that game over the try line. We contjnued into 2020 with fewer numbers, 9’s not sure where you disappeared to’ but the 10s stayed strong and grew in numbers playing in a combine squad, your skill level ladies has grown year on year and I’m so excited to see so many of you taking the next step into club and representatjve rugby.
Cross Country
Year 7 Girls Cross Country Mrs Rowland Most Commitued: Tallulah Fry Coach’s Comment: Once again, the girls have been fantastjc at Cross Country. The year 7’s have been nothing but enthusiastjc and a delight to take each week. We had Bella & Talullah come to the warmest County cross country we’ve seen in a few years afuer batuling in one of the wetuest a few weeks before hand. No matuer what the weather the girls put in 100% efgort and I look forward to the Reading league again with you next year. Year 8 & 9 Girls Cross Country Mrs Rowland Most commitued: Anna Patuerson Proudest moment: Seeing the competjtjon and support you provided each other. Coach’s Comment: You are an exceptjonally talented and commitued group of runners, you push each
- ther week afuer week during the reading league and are always such a pleasure to be around as a
- team. During the County event India had a fantastjc run narrowly missing out on a place at the inter-
countjes event. I look forward to the cross country and athletjcs season next year. Year 7 & 8 Boys Cross Country Mrs Rowland
Captain: Aston Howes We’ve had some great Cross country competjtjons with the full range of weather conditjons, with the driest sunniest district cross country on a shiny Saturday in January following one
- f the wetuest area cross countries where if anyone went home dry….how! Some fantastjc
performances throughout the reading league where each of you put your passion and commitment on the line with some fantastjc sprint fjnished.
Year 9 & 10 Boys Cross Country Mrs Rowland Captain: Ollie Butler Vice Captain: Noah Kemp The senior boys are a fantastic group, they’re committed, passionate and not afraid to give it their all, we’ve had some fantastic performances this season and a mention has to go to James Nicoll the
- nly year 10 running this year and producing some fantastic performances and times which lead to a
brilliant district competition and is continuing to train out of school. He’s the senior running in this group but chasing up his heels are a brilliant group of year 9’s Ollie being names this years captain who consistently ran well during the reading league and again combine with his training out of school has really improved this season.
