What would you do if you saw a huge giant peering into your window? Would you run? scream? hide? Sophie didn't know what she was seeing, but all she did know is that it was an unbelievably, unimaginably huge and towering man. She later discovers that this unknown being is the BFG ­ the Big Friendly Giant. Friendly by name, and friendly by nature: he is the most gentle, kind­hearted person Sophie has ever encountered. Misunderstood at first because of his size, the BFG proves himself to be a lovable character who becomes Sophie's best

• friend. Clumsy and a little mixed­up, the BFG speaks in his own language made

The BFG certainly lives up to his name in his appearance: he is giant! Towering above the tallest buildings, he makes little human bean Sophie look like an ant! To the side of his enormous and pale wrinkly face, he has the most gigantic ears! They are so large that they are like two space station satellite dishes either side

• f his head. As he races towards giant land like a tornado ripping across the

horizon, they flap and flutter in the wind. On his face, he has two bright flashing eyes just above his protruding nose which looks as sharp and pointed as a knife. His tall but gangly frame is enormous, with each limb resembling tree trunks. His clothing looks worn and tatty. Wrapped around his body, he wears a brown, suede waistcoast on top of a dirty looking, creased shirt. At the bottom, he wears bottle­green trousers held up with a leather belt with a huge, shiny buckle. Have you ever seen such a sight? The BFG
