Root Protection Zone (RPZ)

  • RPZ is an average radius of 1 foot for each inch (DBH) ex. 20

inch tree = 20 foot rpz

  • The RPZ can encroach no closer than one-half (1/2) the root

protection radius. Ex. 20 inch tree = 10 foot rpz

  • The root protection zone may be shifted to allow impacts no

closer than one-half of the RPZ radius

  • No cutting, filling, trenching, root disturbance, soil

disturbance, or construction impacts in RPZ

  • During construction activity on site, at least a six-layer of

coarse mulch shall be placed and maintained over the rpz.

Tree Application Process cont’d:

  • - If there is an approved Tree Preservation plan use the Tree Permit

Application and provide the approved AP# in the space provided on the application.

  • - Schedule pre-construction meeting to review proposed work and

alignments through the tree reviewer.

  • - The approved tree application is valid only for the proposed scope
  • f work (site work, platting, building permit)
  • ** Tree applications are to be submitted to intake staff to ensure

proper processing, assignment of an AP# and distribution to the appropriate staff. This will ensure tree applications are tracked through the review, inspection, and approval stages
