Background
- The worldwide population is projected to grow
- lder over the next several decades.
- Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has
been established as a standart treatment for most patients with aortic stenosis
- However, there is a debate about the utility of
TAVI in some very high-risk subgroups of patients including nonagenarians
Purpose and key points about methods
- We aimed to assess the early and long-term
clinical outcomes in nonagenarian patients undergoing TAVI.
- January 2008 and February 2015, patients with
severe aortic stenosis underwent TAVI and were enrolled in the Brazilian registry. Among a total of 819 patients, 735 were < 90 years and 84 (10.2%) were nonagenarians.
Results

Conclusions
- In this real world observational study,
nonagenarians patients who underwent TAVI had worse short-term outcomes but similar long-term clinical outcomes as compared with patients < 90 years.
- The treatment of symptomatic severe aortic
