Carbon Pricing 101

When carbon emissions cost money, we produce less of them.

If you believe the IPCC, we have to do everything…. including using the most efficient tool, carbon pricing.

A price on carbon makes everyone partner in the effort.

slide-11

A carbon tax makes everything else we need to do easier:

  • Clear market

signal promotes renewable energy investments

slide-12
SLIDE 12

16

A carbon tax can affect industries for which emissions standards are hard to regulate, such as -

  • glue
  • glass
  • paper
  • pulp
  • steel
  • chemicals, etc.

A carbon tax makes everything else we need to do easier:

  • Reduces power sector

emissions more and faster than the Paris Accords,

  • Regulatory efforts can be

targeted for transportation and agriculture, (less responsive

to energy price signaling but generate high emissions).

A carbon tax can affect emissions beyond our borders.
