DOSO on broiler breeding

  • 1) Legislation must be changed to abandon

restrictive feeding of parental generation

  • 2) The breeding programmes must be changed

towards developing slower growing breeds

  • 3) Danish breeding should be reestablished to

take into account as well special requirements of

  • rganic broiler farming

DOSO on broiler farming

  • 1) DOSO acknowledges that the problems of

tibial dyschondroplasia has been reduced, but it is not acceptable that the number of animals having less severe walking problems is increasing.

  • 2) Number of broilers kept in one house should

be reduced from the now up to 40.000.

  • 3) In relation to organic production steps are to

be taken to reduce the problems of pododermatitis.

DOSO on problems related to slaughtering

  • 1) DOSO acknowledges that the methods for

catching the broilers has been improved, but finds that a less stressful and harmful method should be sought.

  • 2) Broilers should be transported to the nearest

slaugtherhouse.

  • 3) Broilers should always be anaesthetized

before being slaugthered

EU legislative needs

  • Denmark should continue taking the lead and

engage in securing that EU moves towards legislation, which gives more attention to animal welfare of broilers.

  • 1) Breeders must be obliged to select breeding

programmes for slower growth

  • 2) Broiler farmers must be obliged to provide

facilities offering far more space for the individual animal
