The Village of Tansley Woods Retirement Community
AN INTRODUCTION TO OAKWOOD RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES INC. 325 Max Becker Drive, Suite 201 Kitchener, Ontario, N2E 4H5 Oakwood consists of a partnership between The Homewood Corporation (Guelph) and R-B-J Schlegel Holdings (Kitchener). Homewood has been a leader in mental health care since 1883 and has extensive clinical expertise (medical and behavioural), relevant to a geriatric population. R-B-J Schlegel (Ron Schlegel family of Kitchener) has 35 years of direct experience in co-owning, managing, and operating long-term care facilities (Winston Park in Kitchener, Riverside Glen in Guelph, Wentworth Heights in Hamilton, Tansley Woods in Burlington, Sandalwood Park in Brampton, Erin Meadows in Mississauga, Taunton Mills in Whitby and Humber Heights in Etobicoke) . Oakwood’s development concept is a continuum-of-care community offering a full range of care support levels within a Senior’s Health Care Campus context. This Campus includes three components -- Nursing Home, Retirement Home, and Senior’s Apartments/Condominiums/Bungalows. This continuum-of-care makes it possible for residents to remain within this Campus Community as their health care needs change. It also allows spouses to stay together (on the same campus) should a sudden illness occur. The Homewood/Schlegel team brings a history of continuous innovation to the design and operation of Long Term Care facilities. For example, it has developed joint venture projects with the University of Waterloo (and universities/colleges close to individual sites), to develop and evaluate new care programs for
- residents. Also, the Homewood/Schlegel team has developed a special expertise
in caring for mild to advanced stages of Alzheimer’s and related dementias. In terms of facility design, the concept includes a Town Square and Main Street as the hub of both planned and informal activity, much like the core of a traditional Ontario small town. This urban design concept, applied to a building interior, has received extremely positive feedback from both residents and family. ...../2 Oakwood’s principals include: Ronald P. Schlegel, Ph.D., L.L.D. (President) Chairman & C.E.O., R-B-J Schlegel Holdings Inc. President, Winston Park Nursing Home.
