(uncertainty about next semester)

  • Less restrictions in Sweden, quarantine in

home country

  • Time zone difference

Leave

  • Lack of measures taken, feeling unsafe
  • Social isolation, mental health
  • Economic reasons

If you are a fee-paying student, what are your

  • pinions regarding tuition fees during online

teaching?

Overall, KI should re-evaluate and lower the fee because…

  • Less facilities are required (labs!)
  • The quality of education is greatly reduced
  • Online courses usually are less expensive, KI programmes are not competitive anymore
  • There is a general financial crisis
  • Other universities (e.g. ETH Zurich) have already reduced their fees
  • students pay for the experience, not just the certificate

  • Supportive seminars organised (e.g. by

student health)

  • On a course and programme level all staff is

doing an excellent job

à “Thank you for all the effort!”

No

  • Studies are made more difficult (e.g. time

pressure in exams)

  • Lack of support for sick students
  • Uncertainty about next semester
  • Not by the institution KI, but course leaders

etc.

  • Pressure into prioritising education over

health

  • Not much initiative regarding mental health
  • Disorganised & unclear communication
  • Lack of understanding & flexibility for

students à “KI doesn’t seem to care and is unapproachable”

Online v Face-to-Face Teaching

Online Pros Cons Recommendations

  • General preference for online

education

  • It would be easier if

announced to be online now to be able to plan accordingly

  • More comfortable/safe
  • Get to stay/go home while

getting quality education, close to family and support

  • Falling behind with online

teaching

  • Motivation issues
  • No practical experience can be

gained

  • Material necessary to join is

expensive: laptop, internet access (some do not have access to high quality internet)

  • Difficulties to stay in touch

with course leaders

  • Not everyone is provided

adequate support

  • Adaptation for time-zones
  • Lecture recordings
  • Accommodation

for group work

  • Exam

accommodations

  • Develop standard

mitigation process in case

  • f technical failure
  • Allow for different

personal circumstance

  • KI needs to step up its
  • nline teaching: redesign

courses and adapt support 2020-06-03

Online v Face-to-Face Teaching

Face to Face Pros Cons Recommendations

  • General preference for face to

face education

  • Personal exchange with peers

and teachers is invaluable

  • Better teaching quality
  • More

networking/opportunities

  • Easier for group work
  • In alignment with the

Swedish strategy

  • Unclear why university is

closed while everything else is open

  • Since most students are

international, unlikely to have contact with elderly

  • More realism from KI:

unlikely to have a vaccine by then

  • Additional risk for family

members that belong to risk group

  • Many students don’t feel safe

in Sweden

  • Safety of using public

transport is an issue

  • Afraid not to be able to come

back (visas)

  • Risk group students do not

want to resume face to face and should not be pressured

  • What happens to sick

students?

  • Clear guidelines and

enforcement from KI needed

  • Accommodation can be

made, e.g. smaller groups for practical work 2020-06-03

Are you willing to resume on-campus education next semester?

  • Everything depends on how the situation evolves
  • Precautions by KI are needed
  • Special precautions for risk group students
  • What happens to sick students?
  • I do not feel comfortable because…
  • Taking public transport poses an additional risk
