The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a document developed by the institution that (1) includes a process identifying key issues emerging from institutional assessment, (2) focuses on learning
- utcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and
accomplishing the mission of the institution, (3) demonstrates institutional capability for the initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP, (4) includes broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP, and (5) identifies goals and a plan to assess their achievement.

Reviewed Institutional Data to look for areas to improve:
- Results of survey of faculty in August of possible QEP topics
- Results of online survey of constituencies (staff, students, Board of
Trustees, retired employees, community) in October
- Pass rate trends of developmental disciplines
- TSI placement test scores for essays
- Computer competency test scores
- AIP: Annual Improvement Plans from departments across campus
Process
Reviewed Institutional Data to look for areas to improve:
- Core curriculum artifact assessment data – collected to meet state
requirements in the areas of:
- Written and Oral Communication
- Teamwork
- Empirical and Quantitative Skills
- Critical Thinking
- Social Responsibility
- Personal Responsibility
Process
- Five possible topics rose to the top
- Two were eliminated due to lack of data or lack of need for
improvement
- Two student focus groups were held to get feedback
- Three topics will be presented to the faculty during the week
before the spring semester begins for a final vote
- The committee will look at the student feedback and faculty results
to choose the official topic
Topic Finalists
Choice 1: Computer Skills: Students will effectively use common workplace computer hardware and software for communication and
- perations.
Choice 2: Critical Thinking Skills: Students will effectively employ creative thinking, innovation, inquiry, analysis, evaluation and/or synthesis of information skills. (We would likely narrow this list if we choose this topic.) Choice 3: Written Communication: Students will effectively express ideas, thoughts, feelings and/or information through written communication.
Next Steps – Spring 2017
- QEP topic will be approved by the Leadership Team and announced
to campus
- QEP Development Team will be appointed to research, develop a
plan and write the QEP
