Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), Test & Evaluation Division (FMV T&E)

The FMV Test & Evaluation Division is a branch within the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), a government agency acting under the Ministry of Defence. The main responsibility of FMV T&E is to carry out T&E of all equipment, systems, platforms and materiel procured to the Swedish Armed Forces, from socks to fj ghter aircrafts.

FMV T&E operates a number of governmental test, training and exercise ranges for all domains, open for government agencies, defence forces and -industry from other nations. FMV Vidsel Test Range

With its 3300 km² restricted ground space, FMV Vidsel Test Range is by far the largest over land test facility in Europe. Add to that 8 000 km² of restricted airspace over an almost unpopulated area with an open radio spectrum, allowing live navigation- and communication jamming, then you begin to realize that FMV Vidsel Test Range is the place for realistic live training and exercise.

The impressive array of instrumentation and infrastructure comprises high-speed cameras, optical- and radar tracking systems, telemetry and Flight Termination Systems. The Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities include in-fmight GPS and communi- cation jamming of both platforms (aircrafts, helicopters etc.) and missiles. The target palette includes static and mobile ground targets as well as remotely controlled airborne drones. The remotely controlled ground and airborne targets can be equipped with different payloads such as jammers and IR fmares etc. The unique environmental conditions as well as the vast instrumentation and infrastructure enable staging

• f complex T&E scenarios and demanding training and

exercise opportunities. For example, live fjring towards advanced aerial targets under jammed conditions, or in-fmight jamming of missiles and GBU-weapons. Other possibilities are low-level navigation during extremely dark night conditions

• r demanding cold climate trials end exercises.

The FMV Flight Test Centre (FMV FTC) has the responsibility to carry out DT&E and acceptance testing for all airborne systems delivered to the Swedish Air Force, i.e. JAS39 Gripen, ASC 890 (Saab 340) and various helicopters. FMV FTC is also responsible for weapons integration and sub-system T&E, such as EO- and EW-systems.

Examples of weapons integration T&E projects performed by FMV FTC are Meteor, Amraam and IRIS-T. Furthermore, our EW-experts have long experience from supporting operational units with EW-capabilities such as an airborne jammer. FMV FTC can lead your project through the complete T&E process from analyzing top-level requirements to fjelding your new capability.

FMV Älvdalen Firing & Exercise Range

FMV Älvdalen Firing & Exercise Range is a large, unpopulated, test area of 540 km² and is the choice for rotary wing T&E and helicopter CAS exercises. Almost any weaponry that can be fjtted to a helicopter are possible to fjre, including laser-guided weapons.

that all requirements and operational specifjca- tions are met.

FMV Land Test Centre Karlsborg

FMV Land Test Centre Karlsborg accomplish T&E of weapon systems and ammunition, protection and survivability, vehicles as well as environmental tolerance and mechanical testing. The maximum fjring range over land is 2 km and over water 58 km. At FMV Land Test Centre Karlsborg you fjnd one of the largest catch boxes in the world for testing of passive and active ballistic protection, sabot ammunition or drop test of high risk objects.

FMV Älvdalen Firing & Exercise Range

FMV Älvdalen Firing & Exercise Range is ideally suited for long-range artillery fjrings, weapon systems, armed vehicle systems large IED and mine tests. The most dominating part

• f the facility is the large impact area (700 x 1000m), which

has been prepared for the use of live munitions. The trajectory

• f the shells is monitored from launch to impact, which gives

total control of where each shell ends. Maximum fjring range is about 42 km. It is possible to do test with single explosions up to 30 000 kg.

FMV Land Test Centres

From research studies through full scale trials to capability T&E and deployment readiness training – FMV Naval Test Ranges (FMV NTR) can support you all the way.

FMV NTR offers the possibility to perform live fj ring of mines, depth charges, torpedoes and ship based surface-to-air and surface-to-surface weapon systems, such as missile-, artillery- and CIWS-systems. Another capability is live jamming of navigation and communication systems. Furthermore, a Research Tank Laboratory is available for test of sonars and underwater communication devices as well as a Blast basin for bubble studies, scale trials and evaluation of chock and blast effects from underwater explosions. At our sea-range full scale subsurface explosion trials with depth charges, mines and torpedoes can be executed. Another area of expertise is measurement, evaluation and mana- gement of the signature for surface ships and submarines.

FMV Härnösand Naval Test & Training Range

At FMV Härnösand Naval Test & Training Range, the vast restricted sea and air space enable complex training and exercise scenarios with threats in four dimensions to be performed. The threats are based on remotely controlled airborne, surface and sub-surface drones as well as real and simulated EW-systems. The range is fully equipped with tracking radars and Flight Termination Systems.

Quality assurance services

The QA services are targeting customers that have procured advanced systems from Sweden

• r European based contractors but might

have diffjculties to have their own resources present to secure a proper T&E effort. The service palette includes:

• QA of contractor T&E programs
• Development QA and monitoring of simulator

and rig trials

• Production QA and monitoring including remarks

and remedial- and corrective action management

• Production and delivery control, for example

acceptance fmight tests, Harbor trials (HAT), Sea trials (SAT) or vehicle trials

• Maturity and capability T&E on system and

platform level

• Requirement and capability qualifjcation data
