Outputs

Suite of SA’s SDG indicators

SDG indicators and domesticated indicators

1

Proxy indicators in line with the principle of domestication, ensuring indicators are adjusted to meet local peculiarities.

2

Supplementary indicators will be included where the SDG indicators are not sufficient or are not applicable to explain the situation in the country, or where data for SDG reporting is not available

3

Bottom up approach as compared to the MDG’s top down approach

Domestication process

National training of Stats SA provincial/District staff

  • n the SDGs

(September 2016)

Workshop was conducted to capacitate Stats SA

provincial and district staff to facilitate Provincial and Local Consultations Consultations with Government institutions (National, Provincial and Local), CSOs/NGOs, academic institutions and Private sector, done Provincially (June – November 2016); and Nationally (1-2 December 2016).

Note: Only indicators in Tiers 1 and 2 considered for domestication

Consultations with All SWG structures 14 November 2016); and February 2017. PLUS Individual SWG focal point meetings held in 2016 and 2017 to finalise Indicator lists

Process - Data

ACCESSING COMPUTATION QUALITY VALIDATION

Accessing data and metadata from source departments was facilitated through the sectoral working groups (SWGs) The SWGs were responsible for data value computation All data will be subjected to a quality validation process unless the data already enjoys OFFICIAL status (SWG activity) Data validation through a consultative process will be facilitated by Stats SA involving all relevant stakeholders

Data for the baseline report was sourced mainly from Government Institutions However new data sources (Private sector and Civil society) will have to be pursued

Compilation

Stats SA staff members compiled a report reflecting the indicator status as at 2016 (or the nearest year).

Validation

Validation workshop took place on 1 – 2 June 2017 to review the UN draft report

Submission

Updated report submitted to NCC for ratification on 31 July 2017. Sensitization

This will be followed by a sensitisation period to key stakeholders.

Final Report

Final report to be handed to the President for submission to the UN.
