Dry Ice Cleaning

> New set up for 9 cell and TDR structures > Two 9 cell cavities were used to commission it

  • CAV518 – quench at 22 MV/m
  • CAV627 – after storage 33 MV/m & strong FE

> After dry ice cleaning

  • CAV518 – 5MV/m @ 3x108 & low FE
  • CAV627 – 14 MV/m @ 1.2x109 & high FE

> Most likely due to wrong handling during assembly > Both will now undergo second dry ice cleaning and re-test

Nitrogen treatment

> 3 single cells in preparation

  • 1DE18 FG qualified (QvsT & QvsE at different T) and ready
  • 1DE17 FG in the insert at the moment
  • 1DE21 LG qualified (QvsT & QvsE at different T) BD at 23MV/m (previous 49 MV/m)

> Optical inspection of 1DE21 showed strange black spots at equator & iris

Status Furnace

> V = 1800 x 625 x 660 mm³ > 2 turbo molecular pumps ( Varian, 6000 l/s each , max. intake pressure ~ 10-2 mbar) > Tmax ~ 1400°C

> RGA is working > No leak > Flow controller needed adjustment (done)

Status Furnace

> Test run next week

  • 400°C instead 800°C for 2h (time saving)
  • Important part is cool down and stable at 120°C and
  • Inject 25 mTorr N2 at 120°C (operational pressure limit of turbo molecular pumps &

heat could (??) damage pumps)

> Mobile clean room is ready > Niobium caps undergo BCP at the moment

The Setup

> Nb(100) single crystal > UHV Mobile chamber – P ~ 5.10-10 mbar > Mounted in a Six-Circle diffractometer (Cu source)

Sample: 10 mm wide 4 mm thick
