The Slovenian coastline compraises the north part of Istrian peninsula – Slovenian Istria and is part of the wider geo-historical region Slovene Littoral (Primorska). Historically the region was very turbulent – a centenarians can tell you that he lived in a five different countries without moving. Geographically Slovenian Istria has peninsulas and bays. The inner part of the region is smore hilly, with various types of landscape, including the most known Karst landscape.

Economicaly Slovenian Istria is the second most prosperous region in Slovenia, after Central Slovenia with the capital. The two most important economic branches are transport and tourism, followed by services and indrustry. The Port of Koper is the only international port in Slovenia and one of the largest in the Adriatic Sea. It is consider strategical for the Slovene Economy.

Tourism is one of the main industries on the Slovenian coast, especially in Portorož, Piran, Izola and Sečovlje, where the most important historical monument is the Venetian Gothic Mediterranean town of Piran.

Istrian cuisine is not renowned for its pastry, because desserts have been replaced by a variety of local fruits. Some of the most famous sweet dishes are pinca and potica, kroštoli and fritule, usually served with a glass of a sweet white wine called malvazija. Typical Istrian dishes will enable you to taste the richness of the Istrian cuisine with its most precious feature that is hidden in the modesty of the natural diet.

Izola is a small town. It has a population of about 15 thousand. Half of its inhabitants are living in the town and half in the villages in the hinterland. In the past Izola was a important fishing port with fishing industry. In this day the main economic sector is
- tourism. The former fishermen town of Izola has also been
transformed into a popular tourist destination, with an important marina.

Secondary School Izola began its operation in 2013 by merging two schools: Secondary School of Tourism and Catering, which was founded in 1960, and Secondary Medical School in Izola, which began in the year 1950 of the last century. Within this period, the school has undergone many changes and is now adapted to the needs of the development of tourism, hospitality and health activities in the local area. The Institute was established to train students and adults to work in various professions requiring the level of vocational, technical and vocational technical education. Students are trained for jobs in tourism and catering, for jobs in early childhood education and for jobs in health care and cosmetics.

In the department of Tourism and Hospitality, school carries out training for careers in hospitality and tourism at three levels: at the level of vocational education for the profession gastronome-hotelier (chefs and waiters); at the level of technical education for tourism and catering technicians; at the level of vocational-technical education for the profession of gastronomy technician.

Within secondary technical education we provide training for students in Health care and Beauty therapists and Pre-school education. It is a boarding school. Students from distant areas who cannot commute daily can stay in the school dormitory.

The school is renowned for successful cooperation with the local community, catering and tourism businesses in the region, food manufacturers, health-care institutions and kindergartens. Our students get work experience in these institutions and companies. In the current school year (2018/2019) 668 students, aged between 15 and 19 years attend school and there are 89 employees.

Finally, we are very proud of our learning achievements, showing up in the results of the national final exams. In the school year 2016/2017 five students with maximum points and in 2017/2018 four students with maximum point at final exams.
