Future service

  • Establish Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

to the north, east and south of Lake Washington.

  • Build a light rail network extending

from Everett to Tacoma, and from Seattle to Redmond and Issaquah.

  • Improve access and expand

parking at stations.

slide-4
SLIDE 4

What is Bus Rapid Transit?

BRT is a bus-based high capacity transit system that delivers fast, frequent, accessible and reliable bus service connections and will help riders avoid traffic congestion.

slide-5
SLIDE 5

SR 522 BRT infrastructure is designed for fast, frequent and reliable service

  • 10-minute peak and off-peak for

SR 522, 20 minute for Woodinville

  • Up to 19 hours of service

Monday through Saturday

  • Up to 17 hours on Sunday

Fast, frequent, reliable service

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Connecting the region

  • SR 522/NE 145th BRT will connect

communities from Shoreline to Woodinville to Link light rail at the Shoreline South/145th Station and to I-405 BRT in Bothell.

  • I-405 BRT will run from Lynnwood

to Burien and connect to Link light rail at Lynnwood, Bellevue and Tukwila.

What we’ve heard

Highest ranked priorities from public input:

1) Fast service 2) Reliable service 3) Frequent service 4) Connects to regional transit 5) Minimize environmental impacts

Key themes:

  • Support for transit priority improvements

to keep BRT service fast and reliable.

  • Questions about property impacts.
  • Request for extended hours of operation

and increased frequency of BRT service.

  • Desire for more parking options.
  • Access to BRT stations and parking

locations should be improved by creating better options for walking, biking, rideshare and shuttle services.

  • Questions about how the new SR 522/NE

145th BRT line might affect existing transit service.

slide-11
SLIDE 11

What we’ve heard: Bothell

“How will the bus navigate through Bothell after leaving 522?” “Would be great to have the 522/145th stop on CC/UWB campus at the transit hub, for connections to

  • ther buses.”

Key themes:

  • Desire for additional sidewalks and

crossings near existing bus stops and future BRT station locations.

  • Support for transit priority improvements
  • n the roadway to ensure fast and

reliable BRT service.

  • Request for ST to consider more

frequent BRT service to serve the city’s growth and development. Sustainamania Fair, August 18:

  • Desire for additional parking at existing

park-and-ride locations.

slide-12
SLIDE 12

What we’ve heard: Woodinville

“There are a lot of new apartments being built right now and plans for adding more near the play fields (tearing down the old school). We're going to need more public transit sooner rather than later… With a BRT starting here...it'll be busy if it proves it can gets us downtown (via a Link) quicker and faster than the 311.”

Key themes:

  • Request for ST to consider more frequent

BRT service to Woodinville to serve the city’s growth and development.

  • Desire for facility improvements at the

Woodinville Park-and-Ride to accommodate growing demand for transit. Celebrate Woodinville Festival, August 18:

  • Questions about existing and future

connections to and from places like Kirkland and greater Snohomish County.

From representative to refined

  • The Board will advance the refined

project into the conceptual design and environment review phase in 2019.

  • The ST3 Plan established

the representative project.

  • During 2018, we

started with the representative project. We are considering and evaluating project refinements to recommend a refined project to the Sound Transit Board in early 2019.

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Representative project: Bothell

  • BRT stations at:
  • Existing UW Bothell/Cascadia College Transit Center
  • 98th Ave NE/NE 183rd St
  • 101st Ave NE/NE 185th St
  • Additional parking north of library (Lot P South)
  • Westbound BAT lane on SR 522 from NE 180th to 96th Ave

NE

  • BRT service through downtown Bothell along 98th Ave NE

and NE 185th to UW Bothell/Cascadia College

  • Every other bus to Woodinville (includes connection to I-405

BRT at I-405/195th Interchange)

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Representative project: Woodinville

  • Service to Woodinville every 20 minutes, 7 days a week
  • Does not include plans or funds for capital improvements east of

the UW Bothell/Cascadia College Transit Center (e.g., none are included in Woodinville)

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Potential project refinements in Bothell

  • Potential refinements shown on roll plots
  • Refinements include:
  • BRT station locations
  • Parking locations
  • Roadway elements
  • Route options for service between

Downtown and UW Bothell and Cascadia College

  • Preliminary high level evaluation of

refinement options

Potential refinements in Woodinville

  • The project is an opportunity to review how best to connect

Woodinville to the high-capacity transit system.

  • The City of Woodinville, Sound Transit, and King County Metro

are working together to evaluate transit options for Woodinville.
