Background: the Solar Project

  • The region has been plagued with long conflict and civil unrest since 2003.
  • The internally displaced population is estimated as 1.7 million settled in

338 locations in Darfur region and 280,000 refugees in 12 camps in Chad.

  • In 2011, the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) was signed

between the government of Sudan and Darfur Regional Authority.

  • The outcome of the agreement is the Darfur Development Strategy (DDS).
