What are Shared Mobility Devices (SMDs)?

  • “Dockless” bikeshare and

scootershare

  • Find SMDs through their apps
  • Includes pedal bikes, electric-

powered bikes, and stand-up scooters

  • Park anywhere within reason

– Not blocking ADA ramps, building entrances, streets, through-way of sidewalks, etc.

– Scootershare launches in DC with three companies

– Scootershare comes to Arlington

Pilot Program

  • 9-month pilot program:

– Have an initial fleet size per mode per company – Allow some growth if performance metrics are met – Set speed limits – Companies must correct mis-parked devices – Data-sharing – Permit fee to fund staff and consultant time

  • Then evaluate pilot to determine its value to

County residents, businesses, and visitors
