Project Overview • C02 - Performance Measures for Highway Capacity Decision- Making • CO8 - Transportation Visioning for Communities • C15 - Integrating Freight Considerations into Highway Capacity Planning Process • Started in 2015; Completed in 2017 • 20 County Atlanta Region Area • Partnership between MPO, GDOT, local governments and 2 USDOT

Purpose – PlanWorks Strengths and Gaps • Strengths – Outstanding repository of information on the planning process – Case studies are good and a resources to learn best practices • Gaps – Changes in planning requirements create challenges in keeping content up to date – Scenario planning and visioning processes are rapidly evolving around the nation 4

How did your project improve understanding of the PlanWorks resources? • Visioning Guide - LRP-1 and LRP-2 Utilized the guide to help develop processes that updated regional vision, goals and policies in 2016. • Freight - LRP-2 Incorporated freight stakeholders into the planning processes via national best practices identified. • Project Prioritization - PRO-4 Outstanding PlanWorks processes for prioritization; used to inform a $400 million project solicitation 5

Lessons Learned • PlanWorks fills a need as a resource of best practices for practitioners • Project prioritization modules are outstanding • Visioning modules can be updated to reflect some of the latest trends in scenario planning • On-going maintenance of PlanWorks will be required to reflect the evolution of performance-based planning 6
