DISCUSS WITH PTThe Senior Phase
Entry to the senior school involves a commitment on your part to a full and appropriate timetable; to attend classes and to be on time, and to apply yourself wholeheartedly to your studies and to the life of the school. This includes wearing the school Dress Code at all times when you are in Bucksburn Academy. Your agreed timetable will clearly indicate your commitment for every period. All S5 students should have a full timetable by
choosing at least 5 courses from the six columns, in addition
to core PSE and PE. All students will remain in their chosen courses for the whole year. All S6 students should plan to complete a full academic year by
choosing at least 4 courses from the six columns.
All students will remain in their chosen courses for the whole year. You will be asked to sign a Learning Agreement. This will involve you in meeting all the above commitments. This agreement requires all senior students to persevere through to the end of each course to April and a course change is only permissible if replaced by another course by September holiday.

This should help students to create cohesive timetables and meet the school expectations of 5 courses ( S5 students) and 4 courses (S6 students).

Foundation Apprenticeships
A blend of college, school and work–based learning they offering hands–on learning and practical experience in the world of work. Each Foundation Apprenticeship has been designed in partnership with industry to make sure that young people get the sector relevant skills and knowledge needed to make the first steps on the career ladder. An FA is on the same level of learning as an SQA Higher (SCQF level 6) and sits alongside other school–based qualifications as one of the student's Senior Phase options. A Foundation Apprenticeship is normally delivered over two years, however there may be occasions where it can be completed in one year by pupils in S5 or S6. In order to complete this over one year, students will need to have between 12–15 hours per week available in their school timetable.

Impact on Timetable
The structure for the two–year model is: Year 1 — Equivalent of one day (6 hours) per week in a college classroom or workshop, working towards a qualification. Year 2 — Equivalent of one day (6-8 hours) per week in an extended work placement working towards SVQ units. Students have the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired in a classroom setting to a practical, real-life working environment. The one–year delivery model is the equivalent of two days per week with one day spent in the classroom or workshop, and one day on work placement. If completing over one year this would be the equivalent of two columns. If completing over two years then would be the equivalent of one column. THIS WILL UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE AN IMPACT ON YOUR TIMETABLE AND WILL REQUIRE INDEPENDENT TRAVEL.
