What is SeedSAT Beta Version? • “Beta”: designing and testing phase • Countries: Nigeria and Ethiopia • Crops to be assessed include: Ethiopa proposed crops: Maize Tef Sorghum Wheat • Time period: November 2019-December 2020. The final beta tool will be available at the end of this period. • Elements of the beta tool will be digitized. • The beta version is intended to inform future versions of the tool that will include improvements based on feedback. 6
What is the SeedSAT Vision of a Healthy Seed System? - Farmers grow modern varieties of crops - Varieties are adapted to environments - Takes into consideration market demand and requirements - Regular supply of domestic-bred and imported crop varieties - Provides choices - Healthy competition among stakeholders - Adherence to quality standards - Appropriate blend of public and private investment - Subsidies (if any) are used carefully 7

What is the Expected Output? - Final output available after validation with local stakeholders - Will include: - A final written report on the findings and recommendations - For EGS, production cost estimates and inventory resource estimates - For commercial production and distribution, tailored benchmarking reports for respondents - Scores generated for specific objectives under each thematic area, But NO dashboard of aggregated scores. - Prioritized areas for investment with estimated costs for internal/external investment considerations - Reports will be considered propriety
