  2. Anti-bullying Policy All schools are required to have an anti-bullying policy which is reviewed regularly School Council have been asked to be part of this review. The current policy says The ‘school council believe there should be no bullying at Eastbury Community School and support a zero tolerance approach. We believe we are all equal and should treat others the way we would like to be treated, with kindness, understanding and empathy.’ Our definition (written by our students) of bullying is: “A deliberate and repeated action that makes someone feel sad, hurt or powerless” Do we still agree with this statement? Is there anything we would like to add/ change.

  3. Anti-bullying Polic licy Do we still agree with this ? Is there anything we would like to add/ change. Different types of bullying: Direct: Physical – kicking, pushing hitting Verbal – taunting, name calling offensive comments, gossiping Gestures – taking belongings Intimidation: that is racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist or due to a disability or Special Educational Need through either verbal, non-verbal or physical acts towards another individual Cyberbullying: inappropriate messaging via mobile phones and social media through the use of any online source including mobile phones, tablets, computers and/or any other device. Indirect: Exclusion / social isolation Add peer on peer abuse The Aim of the Policy To minimise incidents of bullying. To improve children’s safety and well -being. To change the behaviour of the person/people who are bullying. To change the behaviour of witnesses. To increase student awareness of living together regardless of race, culture, gender or sexuality To establish the extent of bullying in the school and target resources in order to reduce incidents with aspirations to eradicate bullying

  4. Feedback on the anti- bullying policy so far…. KS3- Agreed that it’s important that we define bullying as a repeated action but wondered if there should be a line in the policy about the importance of students being able to report one off incidences of hurtful behaviour and know they will be listened to. KS4 Agreed with the existing policy. Their discussions were more about the importance of ensuring that the policy is well shared and understood by all students and staff. We discussed the possibility of better display, regular review with students, use of staff briefings and assemblies. Next week we will have to give our final feedback on this so please discuss in forms.

  5. Extr xtra- curricular clubs KS3 This was an item bought up by students. Students were keen to see a greater range of activities such as dance, basketball, cookery and textiles. We discussed clubs that have been requested previously and yet there has not been enough student interest to maintain them. Reps should be discussing this in forms. What extra-curricular activities would pupils like to see? Please bear in mind that PE facilities for additional clubs are limited in the winter due to the weather

  6. Use of f toilets in lessons KS4 council discussed at length whether students should be allowed to go to the toilet in lessons. It was good to hear that this had been discussed in some tutor times, with tutors pointing out the difficulties in students following lessons and learning if they have missed instructions. KS4 council voiced concerns that if students need to go to the toilet they will not be able to concentrate properly. However they also agreed students should be expected to be quick, and that not all toilets should be left open. This is something to be discussed further with SLT.

  7. Equalities The equalities group have been busy planning for LGBT week. This week we started -planning assemblies for the end of this half term. - Designing the stickers that will be given out by the equalities group at key points in the year. - Drafting a letter to invite members of LBBD to visit our school and hear what’s happening

  8. Next KS3 agenda Agenda items - Fundraising activities - Anti-bullying policy - Drinks in the canteen Equalities, KS3 and 4 school council meetings will take place as usual this week. KS4 - Anti-bullying policy - Uniform - drinks Let your reps know what you want raised in meetings
