MATH I PLACEMENT

 Rubric placement process  Math I is a HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT! It goes on your permanent record (that colleges will see!)  Students can not retake the class

  • nce they have passed it. (and a

D is passing!)  Taking Math I in 8th grade points students towards a college level math class in 12th grade (such as AP Calculus or AP Statistics or the IB equivalent).

IF I DON’T TAKE MATH I… Math progression for students who don’t take Math 1 in 8th grade:  9th grade: Math I  10th grade: Math II (H)  11th grade: Math III (H)  12th grade: AFM/ Pre-Calc (H)  This IS a college prep track!

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

During Academic Enrichment students will receive weekly lessons from the Counselor (Building Bulldog Community) that will include activities that target Character Education, career exploration,

  • rganization, emotional regulation, coping skills,

etc. Students who choose 2 year long electives will take PE/Health during one semester to fulfill the state requirement.

RISING 7TH GRADE ELECTIVES

Year Long Electives:  BAND / ORCHESTRA – Students currently enrolled in these classes are encouraged to continue their musical experience! Students may also choose Beginning Band if they did not take Band in 6th grade.  Spanish I-A- The first ½ of a high school credit foreign language class. Students must successfully complete I-A and the 8th grade I-B level to receive the credit for Spanish I. This is a challenging class. Students can pick up an application for Spanish I-A from their ELA teacher. Applications take into account English performance and self-starting personal

  • characteristics. Qualified applicants will be drawn at random

for spots in the class.  Advanced Choir – For students who are ready for a more advanced singing experience. Requires Mr. Brown’s signature.  ESL- For students who are acquiring English as a second language.

This application is designed to help ensure that students who are placed in this high school level class have the academic and behavioral maturity to be successful, constructive members of the class community. Because class sizes are very large and the curriculum is challenging, students must be self-starting, have good time management, and be able to remain focused and on-task in class. Spanish I-A and I-B will appear on the student’s high school transcript. Students whose applications are completed and whose teacher recommendations meet expectation level will go into a pool of nominees. Nominees will be drawn at random to fill the available seats. Foreign Language Application Directions: Please give your ELA teacher the attached teacher recommendation sheet. The teacher will fill in your current grade in the class. They will also rate you on: Time management to meet assignment deadlines, focus in class, self-starting in class, and perseverance with difficult tasks (the ability to problem solve independently). Year Long Electives

 BAND / ORCHESTRA – Students currently enrolled in these classes are encouraged to continue their musical experience!  Advanced Choir- A class for students who are ready for a more advanced singing experience. Requires Mr. Brown’s recommendation.  Advanced Drama III – Advanced drama class for students who took Drama and/or Advanced Drama in 7th grade. This class will focus on performances, monologues, interpretive drama, etc. Requires Mrs. Calvert’s recommendation.  Spanish I-B - The second ½ of a high school credit foreign language class. Students must successfully complete I-A in 7th grade and I-B in 8th grade to receive the credit for Spanish I or French I. If a student didn’t take I-A in 7th grade, he/she cannot take I-B in 8th grade.
