THOUGHTS ON MATH I (FORMERLY ALGEBRA) MATH I PLACEMENT IF I DON’T TAKE MATH I…  Rubric placement process Math progression for students who don’t take Math 1 in 8 th  Math I is a HIGH SCHOOL grade: CREDIT! It goes on your permanent record (that colleges will see!)  9 th grade: Math I  10 th grade: Math II (H)  Students can not retake the class once they have passed it. (and a  11 th grade: Math III (H) D is passing!)  12 th grade: AFM/ Pre-Calc (H)  Taking Math I in 8 th grade points students towards a college level  This IS a college prep track! math class in 12 th grade (such as AP Calculus or AP Statistics or the IB equivalent).

  7. SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES Science and Social Studies classes are A/B day and are heterogeneously grouped in each period. Teachers work to differentiate instruction and assessments within classes

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT During Academic Enrichment students will receive weekly lessons from the Counselor (Building Bulldog Community) that will include activities that target Character Education, career exploration, organization, emotional regulation, coping skills, etc. Students who choose 2 year long electives will take PE/Health during one semester to fulfill the state requirement.

  9. RISING 7 TH GRADE ELECTIVES Year Long Electives :  BAND / ORCHESTRA – Students currently enrolled in these classes are encouraged to continue their musical experience! Students may also choose Beginning Band if they did not take Band in 6 th grade.  Spanish I-A - The first ½ of a high school credit foreign language class. Students must successfully complete I-A and the 8 th grade I-B level to receive the credit for Spanish I. This is a challenging class. Students can pick up an application for Spanish I-A from their ELA teacher. Applications take into account English performance and self-starting personal characteristics. Qualified applicants will be drawn at random for spots in the class.  Advanced Choir – For students who are ready for a more advanced singing experience. Requires Mr. Brown’s signature.  ESL - For students who are acquiring English as a second language.

RISING 7 TH GRADE ELECTIVES Semester Long Electives :  Introduction to Computer Applications  Computer Skills and Applications II (must have completed Computer Apps.)  Exploring Entrepreneurship  Exploring Economic Systems  PLTW Computer Innovations  Art 7  Chorus  Introduction to Drama  Drama II (Mrs. Calvert’s signature required – must have taken Drama in 6 th grade)  Digital Media Journalism  Fitness*  *To take a 7 th grade PE elective you must pass both PE and Health in 6 th grade Required Elective: PE/Health 7

This application is designed to help ensure that students who are placed in this high school level class have the academic and behavioral maturity to be successful, constructive members of the class community. Because class sizes are very large and the curriculum is challenging, students must be self-starting, have good time management, and be able to remain focused and on-task in class. Spanish I-A and I- B will appear on the student’s high school transcript. Students whose applications are completed and whose teacher recommendations meet expectation level will go into a pool of nominees. Nominees will be drawn at random to fill the available seats. Foreign Language Application Directions: Please give your ELA teacher the attached teacher recommendation sheet. The teacher will fill in your current grade in the class. They will also rate you on: Time management to meet assignment deadlines, focus in class, self-starting in class, and perseverance with difficult tasks (the ability to problem solve independently).
