Results of the 2014 Kentucky Incentives for Prevention (KIP) Survey for Boyle County Data presented here are the combined results of Boyle County and Danville Independents participation in the 2014 Kentucky Incentives for Data Source
Data Source
Data presented here are the combined results of Boyle County and Danville Independent’s participation in the 2014 Kentucky Incentives for Prevention (KIP) student survey.
What is the KIP Survey?
The intent of the KIP survey is to anonymously assess student use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD), as well as a number of factors related to potential substance abuse (e.g., peer influences, perception of risk, mental health and school safety). The KIP survey is used to plan substance abuse prevention programming and to evaluate the impact
- f efforts aimed at reducing substance use.
KIP Survey Questions
Core items on the KIP survey represent the “industry standard” when it comes to self-report measures of youth substance use, and have been validated repeatedly over the past twenty years. The 2014 version of the survey was expanded to include new questions related to heroin, new tobacco products, synthetic marijuana, prescription drug diversion, bullying, self-harm and suicide.
Regional and State Comparisons
Graphs in this presentation display your district’s results compared to data for your surrounding region (the Bluegrass region) and for the rest of Kentucky. The Bluegrass Region includes data for the following counties: Franklin, Scott, Harrison, Nicholas, Bourbon, Clark, Powell, Estill, Madison, Lincoln, Garrard, Mercer, Fayette, Anderson and Woodford. Statewide data consists of the other 157 (of 173) school districts that participated in the 2014 KIP Survey.

10th grade data
Although students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 participated in the 2014 KIP Survey, this presentation focuses on responses given by 10th graders only. 10th grade is considered to be the most accurate indicator
- f levels of use for high school students. (By 12th grade,
the effect of drop-out rates artificially depresses the numbers.) One exception: When looking at the use of inhalants (sniffing glue, inhaling contents of aerosol spray cans, etc.) we examine the consumption patterns of 8th graders rather than 10th graders. Historically, younger students are more likely to use inhalants than older students.
