Dental Clinic Program

 The dental clinic treats patients of Klibur Domin and the

surrounding community and will expand into districts of Ermera and Liquisa in the future

 The Dental Clinic will have trained dental nurses to

provide assessments

 Visiting Australian dentists will provide priority dental

treatment

 Klibur Domin is in consultation for capacity skill sharing

between Australian and Timorese dental professionals at the Klibur Domin Dental facility.

TB Mobile Program

TB Burden in Timor-Leste

 TB Incidence rate is estimated to be 498/100,000

population (estimated 6,000 cases every year)

 Mortality Rate is estimated to be 100/100,000

population(estimated 1,200 died every year).

 In 2016, TL only detected 3,731 TB cases.

Community TB (mobile) program

 Undertake TB suspects identification through Active

case finding and Contact tracing.

 Undertake TB diagnosis by Smear Microscopy and

GeneXpert.

 Provision of accommodation, good nutrition and

medical treatment for suspects and patients in both TB and MDR-TB.

 Provision of TB Health Education to community groups

(Youth groups, Women’s groups, Local Leaders and school children)

 Training and support for Community healthcare

workers and Volunteers to support TB program in their village area.

Major Achievements of the TB Program

 TB Case detection and treatment continue to improve well.  No-one dropped-out of treatment and there were fewer deaths.  The KD proposal was submitted to CCM and MOH for the Global

Fund for 2016 and 2017 was approved( US$300,000).

 Expansion of TB Program to Ermera and Maliana Districts  The KD TB team has established good coordination and

collaboration with Liquisa, Maliana and Ermera districts in TB Program.

 Funding support from the Rotary Club of Balina to purchase a

4WD car, two motor bikes and other equipment to support TB Program

 Global Fund Grants for TB program for 2018-2020 was approved

in December 2017. The agreement signed in Feb 2018.

 Local staff 45 (Male: 30, female: 15)  Volunteers are mainly from:  Australian Volunteers International (AVI)  Japanese Volunteer (JICA)  Rotary  College/University students from Timor-Leste  Peace Corps

Challenges facing KD

 Supplies of some medications from local government have

been limited and there is some uncertainty and risk with alternative suppliers

 Need for professional capacity building  When new construction is complete there will be additional

staff workload and energy expenditure

 Difficulties with accessing chest x-ray at Dili Hospital  Infrastructure such as roads to remote places makes it

difficult to assess the population in their homes to provide health and social assistance

 Shortage of human resources available in the area of

disabilities (especially mental)

 Government instability with regard to laws on the subject of

disabilities, especially people with mental disability and those who were abandoned by their family

Future Plan of Klibur Domin

 Explore the need for a second CBR team to provide

support to People with Disabilities in district of Maliana.

 Train CBR staff on TB, cataracts, and HIV/AIDS for

detection and referral to relevant departments

 Continue to develop partnership with government and

International NGOs to support The Inpatients Services, Tuberculosis and CBR program.

 Garden and Landscaping, Renovate Director former

house, Repair Internal Roads.

 Continue to arrange Australian volunteer Nurses and

Psychiatrists to provide disability training.
