An amazing diversity of life exists at RNSP. The ancient coast redwood ecosystem preserved in the parks contains some of the planet’s most majestic forests. Here, banana slugs, gray whales, Douglas fir, black bears, and sea anemones are equally at home with redwoods and oak woodlands. MAJOR DUTI ES: The Maintenance Worker (Trails) operates as part of a team under the direction of the Maintenance Worker Supervisor. The major duties that the incumbent is responsible for is performing maintenance, construction and repairs on trails, trail bridges, associated structures, backcountry campgrounds and public use facilities. This requires knowledge of and experience with: basic carpentry, the use of both hand and power tools, construction and repairs of trail tread, foot bridges, drainage structures, retaining walls; vegetation removal using both hand tools and power equipment; with certification, safely using various sizes of chainsaws in felling timber, cutting, bucking, and limbing trees; utilizing griphoists, winches and rigging for moving and placing heavy objects. This position requires the ability to safely operate a variety of power equipment such as chainsaws, hedge trimmers, brush cutters, vibrating compactors and motorized carriers, including providing preventative maintenance. This position may require assisting the custodial and facilities management
and projects. At times, this position may require providing leadership and guidance to seasonal laborers, volunteers and youth work groups in performing the work listed above. The work is performed outdoors in various types of weather and requires heavy physical exertion and strenuous physical activity, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, hiking long distances (15 miles or more miles in a day) on backcountry trails which traverse steep terrain. Join the staff of the Recruitment Policy and Outreach (RPO) division of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), for an in-depth briefing that will explain each section of the job opportunity announcement (JOA) in an effort to provide you with information and to assist you in selecting the right job. The presentation highlights a three part process to assist you in writing your Federal resume. You will be shown a real JOA and we will walk you through a process that will help you review the JOA to determine if you are qualified, identify the important requirements and then tailor your resume to that JOA. Lastly, it will provide a quick overview of the resume builder on USAJOBS. There is no cost for these sessions and, because they are virtual (online) sessions, you can participate from any location provided you have an Internet connection. Sessions will be offered monthly.
