The Situation • Last province to see the virus = expected to be last province to open • Only 30% of businesses were mandated to close by the province • No blanket order issued for non-essential businesses • If you closed voluntarily, consider reopening • Effect on the economy has been and will continue to be dramatic • Government does not expect a vaccine for 12 – 18 months, but not widely available for even longer.

Provincial Re-Opening Plan • Goals • There attempt, in reopening, is to balance the risk of increased transmission with the need to increase economic and social activity for the health of all Nova Scotians. • Every attempt will be made to minimize the risk by rapid identification of cases and contacts as they emerge.

Provincial Re-Opening Plan • Phased Approach • Phase 1 • Some non-essential businesses, daycares, outdoor activities, non-urgent health care, some small gatherings, less than 10 • Phases 2 – 5 • Each phase will allow gradually riskier businesses to open and larger gathering sizes. • Phase 5 won’t happen until a Vaccine is widely available • Moving to next phase • Monitoring 7 criteria (40+ data points)

COVID-19 Business Risk Assessment • Releasing this Assessment Today • Reviews 24 risk points • Rate each based on the criteria and come up with total rating • Provides some guidance on things to mitigate the risks • This is a tool to help you understand the risks present in your business and help you develop the operational plan

COVID-19 Operational Plan • Pre-Screening Tool • Actively pre-screen staff before shift • Pre-Screening Tool Available in our guide • Form should include • Name, Date, Times On-Site • Symptom Checklist (fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills) • Travel and contact history • All forms should be held separately from employee files, suggesting holding on for 3 months or more. • These can be used for contact tracing, if needed

COVID-19 Operational Plan • Physical Distancing • Patrons and Staff must not be permitted to congregate in groups • Likely Changes Needed • Layout of workplace • Normal procedures and workflow • Interaction between patrons and staff • Directed flow of traffic/patrons • Consider appointing a staff member to monitor this • Where not possible, physical barriers and other techniques might be required

COVID-19 Operational Plan • Cleaning & Disinfection Procedures • All common areas must be cleaned/disinfected twice daily, or more. • High touch items will need cleaning more frequently • Countertops, chairs, shared equipment, registers/POS, washrooms, etc. • Follow instructions of products you are using • Be sure not to mix products that may react to each other • Documentation • Cleaning Checklist or other record keeping system that works for you to document cleaning

COVID-19 Operational Plan • Facilitating Personal Hygiene Etiquette • Enable frequent hand hygiene for patrons and staff • Post signs encouraging personal hygiene • Provide basic supplies • Hot/Cold Running Water • Liquid Soap • Paper Towel • Garbage Bins • Hand Sanitizer • Cleaning/Disinfection Supplies • PPE (as needed) • Be sure public washrooms are always properly stocked
