With this year’s Golf Outing proceeds, Pickering Manor plans to purchase a new pain management system, wound healing stimulation machine, and a state of the art physical therapy cycle.
Shortwave Diathermy is used to increase local circulation to assist with healing and manage pain. It increases movement and flexibility in stiff muscles and joints. It is used to treat slow healing wounds, arthritis and soft tissue injuries. “PENS,” or Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation closely replicates the body's normal muscle and nerve firing patterns. Research has demonstrated its effectiveness for muscle re-education and treatment of muscle disuse atrophy following trauma, injury, or surgery. PENS devices may be used to assist in the treatment of symptoms of neuromuscular disease, urinary incontinence, stroke, recovery from post-operative joint replacement and other orthopedic diagnoses. The Omnicycle ™ Elite Motorized Rehabilitation System represents the most advanced therapy cycle technology available today. It accommodates post-acute patients who may not typically be able to participate in therapeutic exercises due to lack of strength, coordination, partial paralysis, respiratory limitations and other conditions. By serving a broader range of neuromuscular and orthopedic diagnoses than traditional "resistance" cycles, the Omnicycle ™ Elite supports expanded therapy services for neurological rehabilitation (Stroke-CVA), orthopedic rehabilitation (TKA, THA, Shoulder, UE) and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation (COPD).
