Create a highly visible artwork at the corner of Mockingbird and Herb Kelleher Way to identify the entrance to Dallas Love Field. Artwork should reflect the current airport aesthetic and welcome visitors and passengers to the Airport. Planning topics:

  • The allowable height of artwork in this location per FAA

regulations is 20 feet.

  • Lighting will be done separately from the artwork.
  • It will be an international call for artists

Public Art Process

 A Call for Artists’submissions will be issued internationally and locally on the OCA website at www.dallasculture.org/public-art-opportunities/  A selection panel, including community members, will be assembled to review artists’ qualifications and make recommendations to the Public Art Committee and the Cultural Affairs Commission.  Community members will be invited to attend the Public Art Committee Meeting and provide their input to the committee members.

neighborhood approved by the Director of Aviation.

  • A representative from the Aviation, Public Works and

Dallas Water Utilities Department and three arts professionals selected from a pre-approved list.

Public Art Process After Selection of Artist

  • Public Art staff commissions the

artist to create a site-specific concept design as approved by the Public Art Committee, the Cultural Affairs Commission and City Council.

Process Oct 2018 Approval to initiate project-Public Art Committee, Cultural Affairs Commission-Completed Nov 2018 Issue international call for artists January 2019 Selection Panel 1 to identify short-listed artist March 2019 Selection Panel 2 to identify finalist April/May 2019 Approvals and contracting July 2019 Artist under contract Fabrication timeline dependent on scope and type of project as well as coordination with Herb Kelleher project-typically 12-18 months
