Objective:
- The committee’s research is divided into
three main sections:
- Hard verses soft skills.
- Soft skills outlined.
- Lesson plans to develop PSW Students’
soft skills.
Section #1: Hard and Soft Skill Differences
- Hard skills are described as specific abilities that can be
defined and measured, such as writing, math, reading and the ability to make a bed, for example.
- Soft skills are less tangible and harder to quantify, such as
etiquette, getting along with others, listening and engaging in small talk.
- The Conference Board of Canada’s “Employability Skills

Section #2: Soft Skills
- Integrity.
- Work ethic.
- Team player.
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm.
- Adaptability and flexibility.
- Effective communication and confidence
- Openness and receptivity to feedback
- Creative thinking.
- Critical thinking and problem solving.
- Collaboration, conflict management and negotiation skills.
Lesson plans were developed to promote these soft skills and may be embedded in VLOs.
