Australia’s seafood industry is worth ~$3 billion Wild catch cannot meet growing consumer demands - which is why aquaculture is so important 60% of Australia’s aquaculture is produced in Tasmania, and prawns and salmon combined represent 70% of the Australian retail seafood category.
- Approx. 40k tonne of the 60k tonne of prawns
consumed in Australia is imported, farmed is only 4k tonne. Tassal wants to grow the portion of Queensland prawns consumed to grow the industry Australia’s leading seafood provider and largest producer of fresh salmon products
- Tassal acquired the land, assets and inventory of the Fortune
Group for $32m
- Three prawn farms located at Proserpine and Mission Beach
(QLD) and Yamba (NSW)
- Tassal committed to a $34 million development program
- The aim is to increase yield to 3,000 tonnes pa
- Total existing pond infrastructure ~270ha
