 The Company was established in 2008 by

individual members working in different locations in Somalia including engineers to help Somali people to use renewable energy resources and sustainable building technologies through education, trainings and technical assistance. Seccco main office is in Garowe but operates in all Somalia. Member of ANSOLE ( African Network For Solar Energy)

 Somalia is rich in energy resources, untapped

hydropower, extensive geothermal energy resources, many promising wind sites, and abundant sunshine, which can produce solar power.

 Somalia’s climatic environment, with over 3,000

hours of high and constant sunlight annually as well as excellent wind conditions, make this country one of the most suitable in the world for the harnessing of alternative energy sources

Continued

 Up to 90% of the Somali population has no

access to electric power

 87% of Somalia’s energy consumption comes

from traditional biomass-type fuels: charcoal or firewood.

 Somalia electricity price is the heights in the

world; the price varies between 1-1.5 US dollars per KW

 Power is generated almost entirely from

imported diesel fuel, which is subject to price fluctuations in the global market

 Establish regulation frame work  Establish of solar association to provide necessary

support and build network.

 Training of the technicians  Know how : Proper sizing, orienting , mounting,

installing and maintaining for maximizing the system performance.

 Conduct more awareness and introduce important of

solar technology

 Introduce solar technology in education sector

 Tax exemption should be provided for all alternative related

products.

 Create awareness on the potential opportunities and

economic benefits offered by solar energy technologies.

 As initial installation cost of solar is expensive, it is necessary

to establish methodology to assist the customers to accept this technology ( Installment Payments)

 Provide different sizes of solar systems that fits each group to

cover their needs

 Develop a programme to convert diesel stations to hybrid

power generation systems harnessing solar energy.

 Basically PV system is low maintenance system .general

maintenance are clean of PV module (dust, birds dropping) by using clean water or soft cloth.

 The existing projects can be learnt how to install, use and

maintain solar systems.

 The people understood importance of the solar and its cost

effectiveness compared to the electricity that is producing diesel generator. All those people who installed solar are not going back to the electricity produced by fossil fuels as they have confirmed.

 solar users are more relax and enjoy freedom of having

continues electricity and not paying of bill every month.

 At this stage solar is usually used for following;  Residential Houses  Government institutions  Education and health centers  Streets ( very common and most implemented)  Irrigation purposes ( increasing demand)

En Ensuring uring th the e quality lity

 Formulate standard and specifications for the

  • products. The goods should meet the standards
  • required. They should be checked and

reviewed before entering to the country.

 Provide necessary training to the solar installers  Provide license to the solar installers  Conduct more assessment and confirm quality of

the supplier

 Ensure proper design, size, mounting and

  • rientation is conducted.

 Missing of active energy intuitions that can provide

legislation support to the solar companies.

 Tax of solar goods is very high in most areas of the country  Less knowledge and awareness about alternative Energy.  The initial cost of solar items is high, every one is

interesting to have solar in his house.

 Less financing and investment opportunities for

Energy alternative projects particularly in rural area. Solar materials is still expensive and can not afford by most of the people

 Two- thirds of Somali population live in rural areas who are

in need for electricity.

 Lack of trainings to produce more qualified solar installers

 Financial aid and investment is key factor to

implement solar technology in Somalia

 Implementing of rural electrification program is

very important. Most of the big cities have private electricity, villages and rural areas are mostly needed areas.

 Establish strong and active energy regulation

frame work

 Tax exemption for all solar products  Training and give necessary equipments  Apply installment payments for the customer

slide-13
SLIDE 13

 Promote solar awareness and understanding in

education institutions ( schools and universities).

 Provide Grants and financial support to reduce

initial cost of solar installation.
