  2. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the workshop, you will be able to: • Describe the changes to Child Protection Conferences (ICPC and RCPC) in line with restorative practice • Contribute to discussion and decision making at conferences • Have an awareness of the practical arrangements for Conferences

  3. Making Child Protection Conferences Restorative Restorative Practice is a way of behaving which helps build and maintain healthy relationships, resolve differences and repair harm where there has been conflict. We will use Child Protection Conferences to work ‘with’ families to support them to develop family capacity, resilience and independence by building on strengths at the same time as ensuring that children are kept safe.

  4. Why and How • Restorative City • Focus on the family - Family and supportive people (neighbours, friends, wider family members) are the priority • Right people (who know and can support the family) will attend • New agenda for the conference – family first • RCPC reports • New expectations for professionals – no reading time at the conference – come prepared! • Reports submitted 2 working days before conference

  5. Making Child Protection Conferences restorative What we have learnt ∗ Too long ∗ Reading time is uncomfortable ∗ Focus is on the professionals not the family ∗ CP plans are delivered to not developed with ∗ They do not promote child attendance ∗ Families like the table

  8. RCPCs ∗ No reports required ∗ Core Group report / RAG rating ∗ Attendance is vital ∗ Individuals responsibility to ensure update available to conference  No need to print and bring  Punctuality / inquorate  Let’s look at the agenda
