It’s spot on most of the time, exactly the information I needed. And it’s good because sometimes it’s information that I didn’t think I needed to ask. Every now and then I’ll get something motivational and it’s not like I have to go in and talk to someone face to face about a

  • problem. It’s just a little bit of advice and

that’s really good. They do help me want to continue studying and keep pushing… I think it’s targeted towards me and that someone is listening to me. When I need extra help or tutoring or something I’ll get a text at just the right time, so it’s definitely made for what I’m going through.

Future Methods for Gaining Consent

Consider building consent into your program agreement youth are provided during intake

  • Eliminates an extra step in the future
  • Explains the service up front to youth
  • Possible additional motivator for enrolling in school
  • Higher likelihood of consent

Explaining Persistence Plus to Youth

  • Youth flyer (download through control panel on your right)
  • Suggested language:

“It’s a text message‐based service designed to support you to succeed in college and earn a degree or credential. The nudges will help you improve your study and learning strategies, remind you of important dates and deadlines, tell you about helpful resources on campus, and keep you motivated toward your goals. Other current and former foster youth in college have found it helpful and motivating, and studies show that students who use the service are more likely to stay in college and graduate.” “It’s a text message‐based service designed to support you to succeed in college and earn a degree or credential. Staying Plugged In

Due to the dynamic nature of the nudges (students getting different nudges at different times based on who they are, their college, and how they respond), P+ cannot provide programs with the exact messages they are sending their youth. P+ & JBAY will host a webinar once per semester to share with providers in Beyond the Safety Net what P+ is learning from student response trends.
