Pentachem presents PENTAMIX OS.10, the premixed additive developed to realize osmotic mortars. Thanks to its composition, PENTAMIX OS.10 gives mortars an effect similar to that of a semi-permeable unidirectional membrane: it stops the flow of liquid water while it lets steam pass, thus halting the passage of salts toward the surface as well. Moreover, PENTAMIX OS.10 restores humid walls and it avoids the conditions favorable to the growth of mildew.

When dissolved in the mixture, the blend of active principles composing PENTAMIX OS.10 bond with the components of the mortar and react to contact with the salts normally contained in the porosities of the walls. This reaction creates new and more stable components, insoluble in water, which crystallize and close the porosities. In 48 / 72 hours, the surface of the mortar lightens, thus removing any visible traces of remaining humidity.

Conditioned brick in water for 24 h. Surface out of the water is 4-5 mm.

Application tests

We applied the osmotic mortar formulated with PENTAMIX OS.10 in two layers directly on the support, without removing it from water. (Apply second layer after the first one has hardened) Total thickness 2/4 mm

Check tests

After 10 days from the application, we put on the mortar’s surface a cylinder 6 cm in diameter and 100 cm

water up to the top.

Drop in the level of water is lower than the absorption capacity of brick, which is 20 % of its weight.

After 63 days, the amount of evaporated water is 5,65 g. (at an average temperature of 21°C).
