  7. Changes to DofE • Usually Year 11 entry age of 15 • Advantages with avoiding very hectic summer term • Exams & revision • Staff pressures completing Year 11 & 10

What ’ s it all about?? • It should be FUN • The hardest thing you will have done so far • A chance to see how you work under pressure, in a team and individually • An opportunity to learn new skills and interests • Learn about yourself • A open door to a love of the outdoors • A chance to really feel that you have achieved something special • Something that is valuable to have on your CV when applying for jobs

  11. It ’ s not an excuse for.. • NOT doing Examination Revision • NOT giving in coursework or homework on time • NOT for a day off after expeditions or walks • Remember It ’ s not easy!!

What is required from DofE participants … • Dedication – eDofE website to record your evidence • Commitment – from you not only to turning up for training sessions, but also putting the effort into all of the sections • Good Behaviour at all times – You are representing yourself, family & school

  14. Walks and progression 1. The local day walk in October, can I walk??? 2. Day walk in March, more challenging terrain look at navigation 3. Training day in February, carousel 4. Forest walk in April, can I navigate 5. Practice weekend in May, as it does what it says on the tin! Carrying all the kit cooking & camping 6. Expedition, the real thing in September next year the start of Year 11 7. Presentation evening in September

  19. Deadlines so you can complete • 3 month section: Completed by Practice Expedition (May 2017) • 6 month section: Completed or well on the way by Final Expedition (July 2017) • Commenced 12 month section by Christmas 2017

Year 10 Key dates: In Your Pack, Fridge Dates are mandatory • Local day walk: Sat 15 th October 2016 • In School training day: Sat 4th March 2017 • Whole day walk: Sat 18th March 2017 • Forest Day Walk: Sat 29th April 2017 • Practice weekend: Fri 19th May to Sun 21st May 2017 • Expedition: Early September 2017 (Date to follow) • Presentation Evening: September 2017 *Dates might change due to weather issues

  21. In School training day Saturday 4th March 2017 • Time demands! • Coursework • Carousel training 9:00am- 5:00pm

Monday training sessions • Monday is looking at the training/ route planning skills you need • Liaising with staff route planning for Final Expedition and Practice weekends • Around 5/6 Workshops to attend 3:20 – 5:00pm • Failure to attend will jeopardise your place on DofE • Attendance Card, FIRST one October

BEHAVIOUR! • All Parents and Students will be required to sign the Behaviour Code of Conduct • Any inappropriate or un-safe behaviour will mean that we will ask Parents to collect their son or daughter from the Expedition • We will be on public campsites and with members of public and young children on holiday • NO BAD LANGUAGE! • ET phone home

Behaviour expectations • Once your child has secured a place, if for any reason you wish to cancel refund of any payment can only be made upon us filling the space with another student. • A place on this visit will be confirmed but this is dependent upon continued good behaviour and the balance of negative and behaviour points. We do reserve the right to cancel a student ’ s place on the trip if these important criteria are not met. • Where trips are oversubscribed behavior will also be considered in the selection process.

  25. Expedition Kit Lists • All Silver students will be given a recommended DofE Kit List • Priority now Boots & Waterproof coat & trousers • Also available on DofE website www.dofe.org • Lots of valuable information

  26. Loaning of school kit • We have a selection of Tents & Cookers • Return after the practice weekend – Returned in same condition – Not damaged – Clean – Dry • Poor state on return, no kit for the Final

Finances • This is a non profit school activity • We just break-even • Staff are all volunteers • The final payment is due by April and will be approximately £220 • This pays for Coaches and Campsite fees. • If finance is an issue PLEASE mention • We look forward to starting our 2016/17 DofE programme
