Interbull Centre
- Operational unit of Interbull – a permanent
sub-committee of the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR)
- European Union Reference Laboratory
(EURL) for Zootechnics (Bovine Breeding)
- ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Supporting dairy and beef industry:
- Accurate genetic information on bulls
- Dairy and beef; 35 Countries; Since 1996
- Enabling importers and exporters to select, worldwide,
the best genetics for different countries, environments or breeding goals
- International Genetic and Genomic Evaluations:
- Interbull “MACE”, “GMACE”, “InterGenomics”; Interbeef

- Breed associations globally have been manually
sharing microsatellite profiles as a process for maintaining herd book integrity.
- SNP genotypes more accurate than microsatellite
profiles for confirmation of parentage
- International exchange of SNP genotypes for
parentage analysis provides benefit to wide group of ICAR member countries
Parentage Verification

GenoEx-PSE - principles
GENOEX-PSE
- Is a tool to facilitate (not a replacement for national authorities);
- Interbull Centre will not have the right to do parentage
analysis;
- SNP exchange ONLY for parentage analysis;
- Verification, discovery, imputation for subsequent verification
- Currently only cattle: both dairy and beef;
- A voluntary initiative;
- National responsibilities will remain where they are now.
SLIDE 9
- “Targeted” animals to be routinely uploaded:
- AI sires and their dams
- Foreign-born sires with daughters born in your country
- Parents of animals born by embryo transfer (ET)
- Other special cases as needed
Target Animals
SLIDE 10
- ICAR has existing accreditation procedures for
laboratories processing DNA into genotypes
- New ICAR accreditation service will be introduced in
conjunction with GenoEx-PSE
- Accreditation for DNA Data Interpretation Centres
- Initial application followed by a accreditation renewal
every two years
- Prerequisite to join GenoEx-PSE
ICAR Accreditation
SLIDE 11
Service Users
- Interbull Users and ICAR Members:
- Only service users with signed agreement can upload
and download data
- Can only download SNPs in accordance with what they
upload
- Organizations officially in charge of parentage
certification in each of the ICAR member countries, or
- therwise traditionally providing parentage certificate
- Organizations that in their capacity as the official body in
charge of genetic/genomic evaluation services
- ICAR/ISAG accredited laboratories that are under
contract with the organizations identified in 1 or 2 above
SLIDE 12
Service Users must:
- Upload regularly (at least 3x per year)
- Report conflicts identified via GenoEx-PSE to the
authorised organisation
- Follow ICAR rules, regulations and policies
- GenoEx-PSE rules
- Pass ICAR accreditation for DNA Data Interpretation Centre
- Maintain the accreditation status
- Not use for other purposes than Parentage Analysis
- Not share/exchange data with third party

National responsibilities will remain where they are now. MULTILATERAL SNP DATA EXCHANGE by establishing a common repository and customer driven access rules:
- Countries with national genomic evaluations would already be
doing Parentage Analysis
- Have genotypes for essentially all dams and AI sires
- Potentially missing genotypes for some sires
- Quicker/smoother transition from use of microsatellite to use of
SNPs
- Optimize customer investments in genotyping by avoiding
duplication
- AI bull owners will have more accurate identity of daughters in
countries importing semen
