• There are a couple of points to note about this portion of Torah

1. The “Mystery Letter”, the Hebrew letter hey:

1. Written twice as large as it should be 2. Having no literal translation:

• To come to your own personal understanding, one must understand the text.
• Also, it is helpful to understand the context of the recording of the text
• I call this chapter, “Moshe’s Swan Song”

To Yahweh have you ripened this fruit, O people who are stupidly vile people You are not intelligent and so he is not your father Even though he purchased you, formed you, established you Remember the ancient days, understand the years Generation to generation you should ask of your father and he will tell you, Ask the ancients, and they will speak to you Elyon, in the inheritance of the nations, In dividing the sons of Adam He established the peoples’ borders According to the numbering of the sons of Israel For Yahweh’s portion is his people Ya’akov is the cord of his inheritance

It is not Yahweh who accomplished all of this!” For they are a nation lacking purpose* - There is no wisdom in them. To him is his wisdom They will discern this - And they will be separated in their end of days**

• * Solomon wrote, “Without purpose, the people cast off restraint.” Another translation says, “…the people

perish”. Casting off the restraint of Torah means they perish.

• ** This is quite different from the normal translation. To start with, most translate the Hebrew לו as if it

were written לא

• r “not”. But what if this is a glimmer of hope in the midst of doomsday prophecy, that in

the end, Israel will return to Yahweh? That is how I see it, and that is my prayer, that they will soon look upon him whom they have pierced and mourn for him as one mourns for a son who has died. When they do, they will be fully separated from the nations. Today, at least where I live, the cause of “social justice” has become paramount in many hearts, but not Torah, or “social justice” at least founded in Torah. They have taken a liberal, humanistic view of life, in direct opposition to Torah. May this change in our day.

Yet with the majority of them God was not pleased, so their bodies were strewn across the desert.
