Leading European paper manufacturers with deinking plants founded the International Association

  • f the Deinking Industry,

a non profit organisation, in 1989. Currently 37 paper mills are members of INGEDE, who utilised about 10.5 Mio tons of recovered paper in 2006.

Who is INGEDE?

“For improving the necessary supply of recovered graphic paper for the paper industry and to avoid an increasing role of legislation it is important that

  • the paper industry defines, supports and

coordinates the necessary research activities in the field of deinking and

  • to seek the cooperation with all other

members of the paper chain.”

(Translated from the protocol of the first INGEDE meeting on February 27th 1989).

Objectives of INGEDE

European Declaration on Paper Recycling

  • Target recycling rate: 66% ± 1.5% by 2010
  • Qualitative targets for recyclability and

paper collection systems

  • Six associations from paper & converting

industry, printing, recovered paper trade are committed to the quantitative and qualitative targets

  • Seven associations of the publishing sector

and of suppliers to printers & converters support the qualitative targets

  • The EU acts as observer

Think of Recyclability when Designing a Paper Product For good recyclability, paper products have to be: Repulpable – important for all types of paper products Adhesives have to be removable – important for all types of paper products Deinkable in flotation deinking – important for all graphic products

Requests for Recovered Paper Collection Systems

  • The deinking process requires clean recovered

paper, free from non-paper components and undeinkable papers

  • Increasing collection has to consider these

requirements

  • Separate collection of P&B from other recyclables is

a must for the paper industry

  • Separate collection of graphic papers is an

advantage for deinking mills

slide-20
SLIDE 20

Important: No Co-mingled Collection!

Co-mingled means contamination and less efficiency

(Anders Hildeman, SCA, Chairman of the European Recovered Paper Council)
