Our customer had to solve a problem for their

  • customer. There was no room for life rafts

in the helicopters with the seats chosen. The requirement was a one man life raft for each of the two crew members.

The requirements:

  • Convinient to reach
  • Easy to get out through the door
  • One hand grip release
  • Placed as to not interfere with the crew

The decision:

  • To develop a new valise for an existing

single seat life raft.

  • To use the same principles as for release

systems for parachutes.

The challenges:

  • Only space available were by the shoulder

and above head of crew

  • Valise had to have a permanent shape
  • Lower angle had to be between 60-70

degrees.

  • Should be easy to handle during overhaul and

repacking.

  • Should not require too much force to release or

inflate the life raft, but it’s equally important that it doesn’t inflate by accident.

  • The inflating line needs to have the shortest way

possible inside the valise to prevent tangle.

  • Should be crash safe.
