Project aims • Enhance quality of optometry curricula in the participating institutions, meeting the criteria for accreditation for the European Diploma • Bring EBP learning and teaching into the participating institutions’ optometry curricula (EBP-ready graduates) • Raise awareness of cultural competency among optometry educators in the participating institutions • Creating digital tools to support lifelong learning in optometry

  4. How? • Erasmus Plus grant application – Up to 1m Euro – Optional funding for staff and student mobility – 3 year project https://erasmusplus.org.uk/

  5. Curricula ready for ED benchmarking • Self-assessment of curricula – looking for duplication and gaps compared with European Diploma • Gap analysis from European Council for Optometry and Optics • Transformational plan (design and implementation) • Repeat self-assessment

  6. Curricula and educators ready for EBP and cultural competency • EBP teaching strategies to ‘thread’ through curricula (based on strategies with demonstrated effectiveness) • Workshops for optometry educators – EBP and cultural competency • Piloting in India and Israel (do these teaching methods work there?)

  7. Online resources • Project portal – Web site to disseminate our aims and activities and to house all resources developed in the project • Personal learning network – Personalised online portfolio for educators and students to use through undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education including work experience

Outcomes • Immediate • Longer term – Increase harmonisation – Addressing preventable of optometry education blindness in partner countries – Increased accessibility to – Increase mobility of quality eye care optometrists in partner – Harmonisation of countries optometry education – Enhance EBP education globally – move optometry forward in this area
