Purpose of the OJT Program

The primary objective of this program is to train and upgrade minorities, women, and disadvantaged persons toward journey level status to ensure that a competent workforce is available to meet highway construction hiring needs, and to address the historical under-representation of members of these groups in highway construction skilled crafts.

Getting Started with OJT

If your project is over $2,000,000.00 and is 275 or more original contract days (2016 Standard Specification 7-25). Prior to starting a project the Resident Compliance Specialist (RCS) will schedule a meeting with the contractor and PA to discuss:

 Amount of OJT Trainees for the project  Required forms  Answer any questions regarding OJT  Provide the opportunity to complete the OJT forms while all

required signing parties are present

  • How do I know if my project has OJT?
  • The amount must be over $2,000,000.00 and original contract days must

be over 275 (2016 Standard Specification 7-25).

  • When do I need to turn in the OJT schedule?
  • The OJT schedule needs to be turned in within 10 days of the OJT

meeting.

  • What if I don’t see the classification listed in the Compliance

Manual?

  • Submit an OJT classification request and an additional wage

classification request if it is not in the Wage Decision assigned to your project.

  • When does OJT Interview need to be performed?
  • Interview must be performed prior to enrollment approval to ensure

there are no discrepancies, such as employee already being proficient.
