  2. Who Can Attend the Camporee A once in a lifetime • Any registered youth and leader and scouting experience for family Scouters and their • Any family who would like to have their son’s families! Eagle Award presented on Omaha Beach (or Arrow of Lights or OA Call Out) • Board Members and Council Philanthropists interested in experiencing a magical historical experience • Packs, Troops, Crews, contingents • Anyone who would like to participate can attend or volunteer to serve on staff with council approval

  3. Themes for the Camporee • Honoring our past and sacrifices made • Share our common values/We are Messengers of Peace • The D-Day Landing Beaches should be preserved for future generations • Recognition and celebration of accomplishments

Honoring our Past and Sacrifices Made • Visits to Museums and hiking the Normandy Historical Trail (unit based activities) • Campfire on Saturday at Omaha Beach to include • Themed presentation: • What happened where you are standing (Broad look at Omaha Beach Landing) • They were only 18 years old (using clips instead of a large beach view, provider personal testimonies of soldiers landing on the D-Day Beaches (audio/visual) • Recognition of Veteran’s Present with the Legion of Honor Visit the 1 st Infantry Division Camp site at Registration and Scout Store site • • At Campfire • Closing Ceremony TAPS followed by Sound and Light Show • Sunday Closing Ceremony at American Cemetery • Wreath Laying ceremony (each unit lays wreath) • Singing America the Beautiful • Each Scout family lays tulip (donation to local Lion’s Club) at tomb in private ceremony

Share our Common Values/We are Messengers of Peace Ecumenical service at the Cathedral of Bayeux on Saturday Morning for Messengers of Peace We stand side by side at our Opening Show Saturday Afternoon The common values in our Scout Promise and Law Venture Encampment and joint activities (French/US/UK/German/Polish) Opening Show “You are the Future” Messengers of Peace Dinner before campfire for all present

  6. Recognition and Celebration The Campfire (Saturday evening) Arrow of Light and Crossover Ceremony Wood Badge Presentation Order of the Arrow Call Out Leadership Challenge Silver Award Presentation Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Why this is important other than for Scouting • Last major D-Day anniversary celebrated with Veterans • One of two major events in Normandy with the other being on 6 June • Only major event being held on Omaha Beach (6 June on Sword Beach) • Backing of French National, Regional, and Local Leadership and designated as the official opening ceremony and is only ceremony focused on youth • BSA is the lead proponent of UNESCO World Heritage designation • Takes advantage of 25 years of Scouting events to involve multiple groups, and agencies in the success.

  8. TAC Support Provided for Units Coming from US 1. Vetting Normandy Travel Companies to work with contingents/units on transportation from Paris to Normandy within Normandy and back to Paris 2. Assistance with Hotel Reservations (however guarantees will need to be made by the unit/contingent) 3. If desired partnering with a TAC unit/community 4. Providing Wreath 5. Same participation in ceremonies as TAC Scouts 6. Will help with purchasing propane (green canisters for stoves)

  9. What we can’t do Provide large amounts of camping/cook gear for units Provide transportation to and from Paris/Normandy Make Individual Hotel reservations Create custom itineraries Make deposits on the behalf of units/councils

  10. Lodging: can camp, campground bungalow, hotel, youth hostel according to personal desires Costs: Council charges a participation cost (estimate $40 per person, with $20 supplement for camping for two nights).
