  • Complete the “Request to Speak” form and

return to OEC staff.

  • The facilitator will recognize one speaker at a

time.

  • Direct comments to the OEC facilitator.
  • Focus your response on operation or

performance of the special education program and not individual staff and/or students.

  • Be concise.
  • Adhere to time limits.

Handling Concerns

  • Discuss your concerns with your child’s teacher.
  • If not resolved at that level, talk with the building

principal to seek resolution.

  • If not resolved with the principal, contact the

district’s special education department.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

  • Mediation – a neutral third party works with

the district and the parents to reach consensus on a variety of issues;

  • Facilitation – a neutral third party works with

the IEP team or the evaluation team to reach consensus.
