Components of Monitoring Process • Information from public meeting, written comments and individual meetings • Review of randomly selected student records • Interviews of staff (regular and special education), special education directors and administrators • Written Summary Report • Implementation of the district-developed Strategic Improvement Plan

  3. Ground Rules • Complete the “Request to Speak” form and return to OEC staff. • The facilitator will recognize one speaker at a time. • Direct comments to the OEC facilitator. • Focus your response on operation or performance of the special education program and not individual staff and/or students. • Be concise. • Adhere to time limits.

  5. Handling Concerns • Discuss your concerns with your child’s teacher. • If not resolved at that level, talk with the building principal to seek resolution. • If not resolved with the principal, contact the district’s special education department.

  6. Alternative Dispute Resolution • Mediation – a neutral third party works with the district and the parents to reach consensus on a variety of issues; • Facilitation – a neutral third party works with the IEP team or the evaluation team to reach consensus.
