In order for mitigation to be effective we need to take action now— before the next disaster —to reduce human, environment, and financial consequences later (analyzing risk, reducing risk, and insuring against risk).

  3. ž According to the National Institute of Building Science’s 2017 Interim Report: Natural Hazard Mitigation Saves, mitigation funding can save the nation $6 in future disaster costs, for every $1 spent on hazard mitigation. ž Can reduce loss of life from disasters.
