Public Health improves community health through educatjon. Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) employs a diverse stafg knowledgeable about a variety of health topics. The Oakland County Health Division’s Public Health Speakers Team:

  • Provides health educatjon presentatjons and resources that are current, reliable, and

relevant to our community.

  • Is available at no charge to schools, churches, civic groups, social clubs, businesses, and
  • ther non-profjt organizatjons.
  • Is available during regular business hours; evening and weekend availability is limited

and based on availability of the speaker. Please note, all requests are fulfjlled on a fjrst-come, fjrst-served basis, and not all requests can be accommodated due to general obligatjons and availability. We will do our best to accommodate your request. Requests must be submitued a minimum of 15 business days prior to the event. However, submittjng a request four weeks or more in advance will improve our ability to accommodate your needs. You will receive an e-mail acceptjng or declining your request within 5-7 business days. To request a speaker or to have OCHD atuend a health fair or event:

Disease Preventjon Services

Communicable Disease Learn how communicable diseases spread and how to avoid giving or receiving them! Audience: Young adults through senior citjzens Length: 30 – 45 minutes Germ Busters / Handwashing Discover why proper hand washing techniques are important, and learn helpful techniques to prevent the spread of disease-causing germs. This presentatjon is appropriate for preschoolers through senior citjzens. Can be combined with the Communicable Disease presentatjon for adult audiences. Audience: All ages Length: 30 – 45 minutes Hepatjtjs A, B, & C This presentatjon covers the basic anatomy of the liver, testjng, diagnosing, treatment, infectjon, and resources for Hepatjtjs A, B, and C. Audience: Adults, adolescents (due to the sensitjve nature of the topic, presentatjon is not acceptable for children) Length: 60 minutes HIV/AIDS Subjects covered can vary from a very basic HIV 101 covering transmission, testjng, preventjon, myths, treatment, and resources. Also available for certain target populatjons are a history of HIV/AIDS, harm reductjon, efgects on aging populatjon, efgects on the body, triple diagnosis (HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, mental illness), and stjgma. Audience: Adults, adolescents (due to the sensitjve nature of the topic, presentatjon is not acceptable for children) Length: 60 minutes Immunizatjons (Adult, Adolescent, Child) Immunizatjons and the diseases they protect you from are discussed. Immunizatjon requirements per the CDC guidelines as well as immunizatjon requirements for schools are also covered. Audience: All ages Length: 30 – 45 minutes Infmuenza (Flu) What is the fmu and why do you need to get a fmu shot every year? Audience: All ages Length: 30 – 45 minutes Lyme Disease / Ticks A presentatjon on Lyme disease in Michigan, which includes distributjon in Michigan, transmission, disease characteristjcs, testjng and preventjon. Learn about transmission, laws to protect against illness, Oakland County Health Division’s outbreak investjgatjon process and who is involved. For professional audiences, data from local, state, natjonal, and global level will also be presented.
