• To fulfill it’s commission the library shall be a visible and essential

resource in the public space.

time develop a new public meeting place for cultural exchange.

• Both the physical and the digital library space shall be easy to get at

and have high adaptability to various needs among users.

• The library shall mobilize the non-users and the population using the

both digital and physical collections, disregarding technology, distribution or way of use.

Strategic area 2 – Activate the universe of sources in the new central library – share and communicate contexts and inspire library users to express themselves

We shall develop attractive room and services for sharing literature and knowledge, debate, experiences, learning and playing – attaching special importance to children and young people. We shall stimulate users own expressions. Develop the library to Oslo’s largest meeting place for cultural exchange, public debate and free exchange of opinions. Develop the library to the hub in Oslo for popular enlightment related to new science and an arena for lifelong learning and users production. Share the universe of literature and knowledge as a surprising, inspiring and flexible landscape for discovery and experiences. Establish rooms and services for relaxation, dialogue and contemplation in the framework of attractive secondary services and offers. The library shall be an enthusiastic, flexible and efficient organization discovering new trends and needs in the international library sector as early as possible. We shall continuously measure our users satisfaction and listen to them. We shall monitor the development of media and technology and take action together with partners. We shall have a professional and service minded organization. Our buildings and our technological platforms shall be recognizable and maintain big capacity for change and development. We shall promote and advertise the library’s services and offers. Our organization shall be cost efficient with attractive commercial offers related to a library shop, cafes, restaurant and other relevant offers.

The new library space is primarily shaped by:

• openness, lack of walls and spatial divisions
• easy accessible channels for technical

infrastructure and introduction of new technology

• use of furniture and the media collection as
