Nem I D – national digital foundation for authentification

  • NemID is - in an international

context - unique in the sense that the public and private sector has created one single digitial identity solution deeply integrated in all the Danish banks (86 institutions) and the broad public services, meaning:

  • All public offices use NemID

(eDag3)

  • All banks use NemID as their

log-in feature

  • More than 250 private vendors

have adapted NemID as their chosen identity tool

Collaboration – extention and experience

  • Not just technical. The collaboration

includes administrative procedures, support networks and protocols a.o. Learnings

  • One solution provides a unique recognition

and understanding by the users.

  • Public/ private collaboration has

strengthened the national digital agenda and the banks role as essential in the dialogue with regulators.

  • The collaboration has identified many

similarities between sectors like e.g. risk management.

  • Users’ expectations and security threats

require agility – public processes e.g. tender

  • bligations can be challenging
  • Collaborations need to focus on the ”need to

have” rather than get derailed by ”nice to have”. Focus on cost efficiency.

  • Social engineering is on the rise

(targeted phising, invisible intruders)

  • Fake president’s fraud, invoice fraud,

recent spike in snail mail fraud

  • Attacks on the finanancial sector are

increasingly professionelly planned, well organised and executed in record speed.

  • Increased crossborder collaborations

within law enforcement in order to reduce cybercrime (supported through Europol/ Interpol)

Perspectives on next generation Nem I D

10

  • The banks want to continue the collaboration!
  • The DBA has facilitated the process and have engaged in the

technical dialogue with the Danish Digitisation Agency as a a prelude to the public ender of partnership

  • On behalf of the banks we have stressed the following,
  • Cost efficient solution
  • Fulfill the customers’/ citizens’ expectations in terms of

– Security & trust (NemID brand preservation) – Usability – Access

  • Flexible and agile project governance structure
  • ”Need to have” commonalities rather than ”Nice to have” – minimum collaboration
